Post Re: Go-Devil Boat with GTR
Hernaja1 - if yours is a tapered chine it is not an 18x56 from the pictures
you have posted I can clearly see that yours is an 18x60 with a lot of
re-fabrication on the transom and rear deck extension and CC...

Go Devil builds 2 very similar 18 foot hulls - the 18x56 and the 18x60....

The 18x56 has round chines - but identical beam width of the 18x60....

The 18x60 has tapered chines - and identical beam width of the 18x56....

My point was that by the time you acquired your hull - it had been severely
re-fabricated and was likely well over 5 years old - not at all similar to the
currently built new GD hulls :!:

None of your replys to the OP were related to hull and GTR performance just
on and on about old waterlogged floatation when that was not the point of
the thread at all... Your last post was finally actually related to performace.
Even though without floatation your hull likely weighs 100 plus pounds MORE
today than a new GD 18x60 hull with floatation - ;)

Happy Hunting :P

Post Re: Go-Devil Boat with GTR
You wrong gigafowl . 2004 18/56 is stamped on my transom And it is a single tapered chine. Everything in that pic your showing is original except the CC ,it's actually between the seats now. the transom was built up for the GT I said that earlier . I originally removed the foam out of the front deck to have more storage ( that's how I found the waterlogged foam ) . I removed most of the back deck because the side pods were just foam and wanted room since I moved back my CC. Plus I don't care to have a big back deck. NASTY did the work for me he can tell you it was all original. I added stuff later on to make it custom for me since I was on a budget but none of that's in the pic your showing. That's before I did any work to it. In a way your right since this boat was originally for a long tail. It's runs good , handles well, hardly ever slides on sharp turns but I am just wanting something more set up for fishing and hunting.

Post Re: Go-Devil Boat with GTR
I'm glad your happy with it - it looks great....

1-16-15 Edited - Hernaja1's hull was a shortlived fishing model which never
gained customer approval with a different chine design than the most popular
and current model tapered hulls - it was built about 10 years ago for the tandem
GDLT outdrive and very few were ever sold and that is the first one I have
ever seen.... Below is the current floorplan of a new 1860 GD hull....

Getting back to the OP - he is talking about a new GD hull with GTR....

Lets agree to keep the thread on that subject ! ! !

Post Re: Go-Devil Boat with GTR
So your saying someone built the back deck the filled the pods with foam ? And if you look in the third pic the flooring where the deck was different then rest of the flooring. My back deck would not have gave you any issues driving a long tail ( what it was originally designed for ) the grab bars way infront of the deck. Even if it was modified it was a steal for 6500$ for a stage one with 225 hours plus the boat. I like the GD boats but I'd go custom if I were you . That way you can get exactly the layout and hull design you want. I hate to sale my hull but I will soon for a new hull. Can't have three boats in my yard one has to go.

You got me all wrong. I'm not saying to remove your pods or anything. What I meant was get the transom built up by Go-Devil or pay for it later, but I did not know GD will build up the transom after you buy it .

That's what I was trying to say If you don't get it built up at GD when you order the boat it will cost you more later on to do it.

Well after reading all of that back and forth I stick to what I have said before. I love the hell out of my go devil 1848. I get everything I need out of that boat and then some. Regardless of motor brand I buy, it will go on my go devil boat.

X2 --- :!:

While you may indeed WANT a tall transom as a preference - it certainly is NOT required to run a 35 SD....

My 18x44 with 35 GDSD and pirouge on racks will safely carry 3 guys and 3 big bags of decoys and gear
and it is a a short transom model... I have 3 or 4 friends that also routinely run Trinity Bay in 18x44s from
both the modern era design as well as the older design like yours with short transoms....

All you would HAVE to do is remove your short LT poling platform and bolt on a short transom 35 GDSD
or other make SD and you would be ready to roll....

Only significant rear washovers I have ever had were by boat wakes of big rigs rolling past the camp
like jerks - but I doubt tall transom would matter in that situation.... That is why you install an
auto float bilge pump for rainy days and random washovers....

Likewise - As many may prefer tall sides - I do not - they present to much profile for
wind to catch and are slower and more prone to cross wind tiller torque issues - I much
prefer the lower sides even though I run across the biggest bay in Texas routinely....

My only balk with go-devil was that I had convinced myself I wanted a hunt deck for the wake wash and not getting mud in the boat. I've had an epiphany and now I really don't care. The transom on my current boat has less than 6" of freeboard when I'm sitting still, and I've only ever had water come over the back when I'm tied up and wakeboard boats or some other asshole goes by too close on the river.

Post Re: Go-Devil Boat with GTR
Just talked with warren coco and he said my boat is all original . Hull and decks. He said that's a fishing model they made in 2005. He even advised me to remove the foam because it will be water logged ( didn't tell him I allready did lol ) and to buy a kit to refoam it if I want. He said the foam in my fishing model Go-Devil will not float verticle with my GTR that that the flotation is not rated for my size motor. Mr warren was a super nice guy, found out he hunts not very far from the lease I used to hunt at in Cameron parish.

Lol no. The fishing model had a flat bow, large front and back decks more set up for fishing then hunting. Me. Warren did say my boat is heavier then the traditional models even with out foam. Me and my buddy = 500 lbs plus decoys , gear and 9 gallons of gas ran 28 in deep water. Not too bad !

I have a 18x44 GD hull with a 35GDSD. That GTR on the same hull with the tall transom would be killer. My boat maneuvers incredibly well through tight trenasses. I use mine exclusively for fishing/poling for reds. The deck extension is worth it. So were the headlights.

Well I pulled the trigger on an 1860. Got it all mounted up and everything. Took it out and ran it on Sunday. Pretty damn tough to steer, but I did run it for 3 hours total, so it's not completely intolerable. It is quite a bit tougher than anyone else's boat I've driven though. Speeds were a solid 25 empty in deep water. Almost threw me a couple times trying to push it back into line coming out of turns. Porpoises a little too, but it only did it into the wind.
