Those 35 SWOMP's are a tempting setup. Debating on upgrading my 27 Go-Devil to the 35 SWOMP this year. Part of me just wants to build a high HP setup and give it a go similar to the old Predators

If I could find a predator to buy I'd scoop one up also.

Post Re: So what's new in the world of long tails
I would like to see new or improved designs on hulls, meaning not everyone needs a .125 tank  meaning lighter weight but still structurally sound hulls, meaning more LT friendly (no obstrusive seats, better attachment points). I would like to see some propeller advances....I tried the GD 3 blades prop back in the late 80's when they introduced them and they were fine in clean water but knotted up with veggies...but I see some are now standard on surface drives. BackH20 is to be commended for the new paradigm in longtails...I see plenty of small and large rigs in southeast Asia that are pushing heavy loads with amazing speeds, many piloted by skinny operators while all I eve hear is whining from former LT owners here! :ugeek: I've been toiling with LT's since 1987, my arm is holding up fine, I want to go from a 27 to a 35 HP for better push, torque, speed when I am carrying three hunters and gear. I'd like to see more user-friendly grips, throttles, better grease zerks for the shaft housing, hex hub props for easier removal/assembly, fold-away grab bar, more efficient (and affordable) mufflers, refinements in motor mounts to reduce vibration, easier-to-work on bearing systems...just to name a few.

wise1, absolutely right about the beauty/efficiency of the longtail design...27 years and it has been the best duck hunting tool in my arsenal, apart from the vacuum coffee mug I bought.

Post Re: So what's new in the world of long tails
Being a veteran long tail owner- user i have had one on a bateau, one on a go devil boat and now have a 20 on a homebuilt skiff, (14.5 ft by 44 inch) i wish they would run flateer on plane. I had a 27lt on a 16x38 go devil boat and is just would not lay down. I wonder if transom angle would help, Warren recomends a long boat to combat this but there has to be another solution. some of the places i go an 18 foot boat is not an option.

Backwater has a new glider light (straight shaft) kit for the bigger vtwins. I believe you can go upt to 27-28 HP with them. I got the 1st production model October of last year.

I've thought about building a remote transom mount of the back of my Go-Devil 1856 to get some of the handle out of the boat and also mount it about 6" lower than the current height to correct the prop angle.

Hey, Frank! I believe you about the 37 EFI except Backwater does not display this on their site. Is the extra 2 HP on the same weight block? Wow! I am licking my chops, even though I have to wait a season or two.. It is hair raising when I hit 20 mph on my rig when I ride alone but sustaining that with two hunters and gear will be nirvana! Vroom, vroom! Be nice if the SS muffler came standard, but I believe it is worth it. Thanks for the update. I have to repair my bearings, shaft, etc., but I am presently focusing on spring turkey season!
