Post Wear your kill switch lanyard
Saw this pic floating around the book of faces. Story is the guy hit a stump and got tossed overboard, boat did a 180 and ran him over. Not sure if its legit but at any rate its a good reminder to stay safe.

That pic is at least 5 years old. Been floating around since I've been on this site. Too many different stories to have any idea which is true.

Yeah I figured I wasnt the first to see it. Still a good reminder that your deadman switch isnt just for keeping your boat from ghost riding across the lake. Also a good reason to keep the dog off the bow while underway too.

I started attaching my lanyard to my belt, so that I could turn around easily and have hands free.

Now was this guy alive, how did they sew that all up?

I wrap mine around my wrist at all times when driving. I don't want to go out like that

Yea i wear mine around my wrist now too, this nice fella wearing a pair of green jeans wrote me a sweet little note for not having it on my wrist or attached to my clothing.

Too easy a task not to wear it. I clip it back on itself and slide it over my wrist. Hell, I even started wearing my PFD most of the time when I am running by myself. I guess that's what happens when you get old!

After that 12 y.o. boy watched his dad drown, after trying to save him, in the basin I started wearing mine. Especially, when I have my kids with me. That's a sad, sad story and no child should have to live through that.[/quote]

That would be horrible! I started wearing my kill switch after seeing this pic 5-6yrs ago and having kids. Same reason I started wearing my safety harness bow hunting and life jacket fishing. I owe it to my daughters to make it home safe.

I attached a carabiner clip to mine. Clips on belt loop, life jacket, etc easily on and off. No reason not to wear one. Too many things can go wrong on water when you least expect it. Was on a boat with a LT that flipped at sank in the middle of the chattahoochie river at 1 am in mid January one year. Water temp was 38 outside temp was 27. Life jackets did us no good in the storage box. Not sure how we managed to swim 100yds to the bank, but thank God the girl with us had a set of lungs on her and the wind wasnt blowing or we would have froze to death. Somebody was looking out for us that night.

Yesterday, I saw a few people out with tiller handles and none of them had their kill switch attached, just dangling.

I wear my kill switch 100% of the time.
I've made a bad habit of not wearing a pfd when I'm hunting places it's pretty shallow or not far to the bank

This actually one of my friends pictures. Him and his brother were driving on Gilliam lake like they have all their life and hit something in the river channel. He was in the front and his brother in the back. They were both thrown from the boat and the boat circled and caught him as he tried to go under to miss it. The motor... A 25 horse outboard choked out tangled in his clothes. His brother was able to swim the boat to shore while jake was tangled. He tried to holler for help but none was around and tore the shirts loose from the motor. He never knew how bad he had been hit . He said it felt like he had been slapped hard on the back. Long story short the flew him by helicopter back to texarkana and he had over 400 stitches. His brother called me while he was in the air and i met them at the hospital. His brother is the one that took that picture and I have another one from a different angle. Needless to say we all wear our kill switches!

Arkansas has a small outdoor magazine that did a story and interviewed them a few years back. Not sure what the issue is but has a mallard on the cover.

I got a couple buddies that never use there's. They even cut the line off going to the clip...........
I call them dumb asses every time we go out. They are not just putting there life at risk they are putting everyone on the boat and that are out with them at risk.

Man, this is horrible. My old outboard doesn't have a kill switch nor did my old Go Devil long tail.

The used Mud Buddy I bought has one and I use it. The previous owner however did not. He had cut the lanyard off the clip holding the kill switch thus disabling the switch. I reattached a lanyard to the clip and hooked it to a velcro strap and also have a carabiner hooked to it so it can be attached to my wrist or my belt EVERY time I go out.

Hope this poor fella has fully recovered from his wounds.
