What purpose does the 2x2 welded on the huntdeck serve during the build? Is it just to keep the plate from flexing/warping when you weld it up?

Re: 1748 backyard bullshit Reason i tapered them was because of the deck frame. I can come up about 6" on the two outside ones until i have to worry about it hitting. And the 2x2 on the hd is to keep it from warping when i weld it out.
