I have had a 6hp, a 12hp, and now 2 12 hp engines. They all have ran trouble free. Never had one issue with any of them. They are such a simple well made motor that there is not much to break on them.

Can you trim these down enough to dig out of crap with these motors... Or once you're out of momentum are you stuck?

I have a 23 and it doesnt trim down as far as i would like but then again its a 27" outdrive so that would have to be a lot of trim. I dont run thick mud. The only time i use the trim is for thick floating islands and i cant trim down far enough in my opinion. Great little simple motors. no bells or whistles. had a 12 and now the 23 and both are good units

I think the 23 copperhead has a 32 inch drive like the 12

thought it was 27" but def could be wrong. it trims alright but not as deep as gtrs, mudbuddys, boss etc. then again comparing copperhead to these motors isnt really apples to apples

If you hunt on a lease and don't have very far to drive they're great. I would advise you save your money and get something else if you ever actually run any real thick mud or carry a lot of weight. But at my buddies lease we have maybe a half mile to get to the blind from the ramp and its perfect for doing that, its on a 1550 I believe but its super light and pushes it fairly well with 4-5 people in that little boat. It doesn't seem to have any trouble at all driving through the real thick hydrilla and coontail on the lake. And its super thick, like thick enough to where you kill the motor and stop immediately and can't paddle it out. But like i said if you have a little bit of a run or you go through some real shallow mud I would look elsewhere.

Had a 12hp then upgraded to the 23hp. Never had a problem with either. Very fast motors for a lightweight jon boat, the 23hp would run 26-27 and handled like a dream because it was so light. I'd recommend them to anyone who needs a lightweight surface drive.
