 Buying a new, used rig
What are some of the things that someone should look for when they are looking at a used boat and motor, other than the obvious.... Are there certain things one should look for.

Re: Buying a new, used rig
I think I understand your question, but if I go off on a tangent...sorry.
1) Since you are buying a mudboat, make sure the bottom isnt hooked to hell.Lookat it and see. Put a string on it to tell the tale. 2) Consider the overall condition of the hull, looking for cracks or leaks. 3) Consider the overall appearance of the boat and motor(some people including myself put alot of emphasis on this. They also look at how the person keeps up other shit around their house or shop) 4) how many hours does the motor have....big guess, his word only 5) Find somebody you can trust that knows the history of the boat and motor if possible 6) Research the boat builder 7) ask for a test ride, if that isn't availabe get in your truck and go home
That's a pretty good start. Everybody else can add to it.

Re: Buying a new, used rig
On the hull I always check the welds, and look for spots that have been repaired. Fiberglass hulls I'd check for soft spots and cracks.
On outboards I always pull the cowling and look for oil and residue in the bottom. Check to see that it goes into & out of gear easily and fully engages. Check for a bent shaft, and for water in the lower unit.
On a MM, check the oil for deposits. Check for bent shaft, all the obvious stuff like wiring, plugs, carb trouble, etc.
