Post Pro drive lower
Was thinking about buying a pro drive have lots of stumps and logs. How often do the lower unit blow up and what is the cost to rebuild?

You can ask a question and get maybe 10-15 answers from people you dont know that don't like pd and would recommend something else, and take that as gold, or get 10-15 people you dont know that love pd no matter what quality they might be and take that. Or, you can use the search feature and get a complete idea based on years of discussion here from people that have come and gone and draw your own conclusion. It's your money, though. Do what you want.

No feathers ruffled, dude, just don't expect the end all be all of discussions when asking a question. You're gonna get some smart-ass when asking a question simply because this is a huge resource, and you haven't put in some effort before asking. A lot of time has been spent discussing, answering, and explaining things on this site. Most people would benefit greatly from reading a lot of those posts before asking a question, including you. You might find something that would concern you, even though it's not an issue for others.

I have really only seen 1 PD gear housing get destroyed by stumps in the almost 10 years that I have had mine. No matter the manufacture, driver accountability is the main problem. If you know there are stumps, take it easy. Now, if you want a real true life testament of running stumps with a PD, Talk to Owen Dickeson (Owen). Form the pics he's sent out, that sucker hunts in a mine field. haha

I've only seen one with blown up gears, and I believe it was due to some bolts backing out after a bearing was replaced in the lower unit.

It's a non issue. I hunted in NE Texas reservoirs full of stumps for years, and have hundreds of hours smacking stumps with a ProDrive. Never had lower unit issues. They're built to take that kind of abuse.

I'd be way more worried about what kind of boat you're hanging it on.

stumps/logs should be no problems. hasn't been for me. eventually things break, and that's a fact.

get a 60 outboard and a tunnel hull, they never break. lol
