Post Can a recessed plug cause cylinder to run lean?
I've been chasing an issue with the #2 cylinder running lean, pulled the head tonight and was surprised to see the plug about 1/2" from being fully seated. Thought at first that I had set the plug in and forgot to torque it down, but once I looked at the threads it's pretty obvious that they are so jacked up the plug couldn't have ever been fully seated.

Doesn't make sense that this would cause the cylinder to run lean, I'd think if anything it would run rich, but I feel dumber than a box of rocks sometimes.

if the plug was not sealing you could have been sucking in air through the treads on the intake stoke....So that could cause you to run lean just like a leak on the intake.

You may have not torqued it down. It could've wallowed the threads out. A guy at work had it happen and it shot his plug out.
