Post Pro drive & excel boat
Found a very good deal on a sw1651 excel boat. How well do you guys think this boat will do with my 27 prodrive on it? Normal load is 2 guys(220 a piece) and about a dozen decoys. Btw motor is going to evt this summer for a little work.

It should be a good boat. I am not sure on the transome angle, I seem to recall excel having less transome angle than the PD's like. Not that its a huge deal. Quick fix with some shims on the motor mount.

Hizzoner on here has an 1851 with a 36. He should post on here, if not PM him. He has some experience with excel and prodrive combos.

White Cracker---you should be running high 20's with that load and a 45 hyper. Definitely not just 20mph. Something is not right with your setup or your engine. And yes, my Excel was a sliding son of a gun too.

Oltcudown--That 27 PD should do pretty well on the 1651 with the load you described. Probably a 20mph boat, maybe a little better. The excel hulls are overbuilt and tend to be heavy. If you add a 3rd man and gear it will be very noticeable. If possible, I would go with a 36 on that hull.

If I remember correctly, the 1651 is not designed for a mud motor. It is probably a .100 gauge hull and may have some cross bracing....not sure.

The 54" bottoms slide a whole lot more than the 51". I really like my 1851, but it really doesn't matter in this situation. The boat you are talking about, I believe, is a different animal in that it was designed to run with an outboard (I think).

I'm not as informed as I used to be

I believe he has the SW version....

http://www.excelboats.net/Shallow%20Water%20Series.html

The 17 inch - 17 degree transom is optimized for the MudBuddy
but the boat should be .100 gauge - slick semi-vee - tripple tapered chine
with longitudinal bracing....

We don't see many here in Texas --- let us know how she does solo
and loaded.....

you are correct gigafowl. Its the shallow water 1651, 20 in transom, and .125 gauge. Its not a semi-v, it's a flat with a pointed bow. Does anyone know what degree transom the pro drives perfer.

I had an excel. Just my opinion, It was too heavy. Didnt perform slid like crazy and not nearly as tough as my Phowler. Just my .02
