 GDSD Props *oh & giga's a douche
I'm real proud of you guys but I wasn't bragging on how many hours I have.
The only reason I brought up the hours on 4 different motors was to say I had never experienced a broken shaft after a prop had been torched off.

Re: GDSD Props *oh & giga's a douche
Something to think about. When you heat steel, it expands. When you get the prop cherry red, you are also heating the shaft too causing it to swell. Just put a little heat on the prop and it comes off fairly easy. Too much heat fuks you. Just try that next time. Still might take more than one try, but seriously, when you heat the prop that much, you heat the shaft too and you are back at square one. Just an FYI.

Guess I've really never paid attention to the GD Prop threads, but I'm amazed at the amount of shit you have to do to get one off. What a shitty design.

Re: GDSD Props *oh & giga's a douche
Well, in defense of the threaded prop design, you are suppose to leave 1/4 turn of play in the prop. And if you could remember each time you run it, you could use a rubber mallet to knock the prop loose of the rear washer, cause when you bump something the prop gets pinned against the washer/nut.
I'm going to try and make this a part of my "boat cleaning/maintanance" after each trip. 2 or 3 hits should knock it loose.

Re: GDSD Props *oh & giga's a douche
Craig and DDM
Look closely at the 1st post and the (Original) Title of the thread....
GDSD Props Anyone know how long or how many tools it takes to change one?
Why go on a lengthy search for longtail issues and bring them to a GDSD thread - that is a whole different animal.... Which led to my quote above about "is it more fun to LIE IN COLOR.... Cause it's deception...
Especially when LT props often last for years on end and even then guys don't care so much about speed so they just keep using them....
SD guys are much more performance oriented an likely change props once or more per season.... And yes I can get one changed with a 2x4 but it don't take a rocket scientist to understand the value of buying the factory removal tool - or borrowing one when ever you want to change a prop....

Maybe im alone in this, but I use that neversieze stuff with silver in it and it never has been too hard at all. Usually comes right off with one swat of a rubber mallet.

You can place your reply wherever you want...
As you said earlier in this post..."read the title of this thread and the first post."
Good try though.

Did anything change from the LT to the SD as far as the way that the prop is installed?

FTR, I changed my shaft and seals because I bent the shaft. I never have any trouble getting the prop off by using nickel anti-sieze every 25 hours. I bought a new bushing and spare seals for when the factory bushing wears out.

Re: GDSD Props *oh & giga's a douche
My GDSD has has not had the prop off in maybe 3 or 4 years. I ran it in salt off and on and it has been in the barn. I know it is going to be a biatch after reading this thread.
It is at the weld shop right now getting a bunch of mods to the hull. I think I am going to start spreyin it with break penetrating oil for a good long while before I try to crack it open.

Re: GDSD Props *oh & giga's a douche
my dad and i took mine off for the first time ever since i got the motor three years ago, sprayed it with kroil the day before i took it off. The tools i needed were two large crecent wrenches, a pipe wrench, and two cheater bars. Prop came off in about 5 minutes.

Re: GDSD Props *oh & giga's a douche
I would imagine spraying it with break might get in there and aid in the taking off of the prop. I can't remember if I put no sieze on there or not. I sure hope I did. It could be one of those deals where I fully intended to do it, but never actually did it.
