 GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
Manual says to use a sawzall to cut lower bushing out if you don't have their tool. (I do not have their tool and do not intend to purchase). Is the sawzall idea the best yall have found? Seems like very little margin for error. Plus, those sawzalls aren't the most precise tools... I wonder if a dremel could do the job. Or is there a way to pop it out the back?

 Re: GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
they are half right. use the sawzall, but use a wood blade. it will easily cut the bushing without cutting into the housing. works perfectly.

 Re: GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
use a wood blade on a brass bushing? Seems like I could do more damage with a wood blade with less tpi. please explain if you don't mind

 Re: GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
The bushing is softer material....
The wood blade cuts the bushing but not the steel housing....
That's what he was tellin you anyway --- or --- just take it to GD and let them do it....

 Re: GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
You can use just a hacksaw blade if yoru worried about damage to the inside of the tube housing. Personally, I would use a metal blade of a sawzall and take it easy. Hold the saw flat with the surface of the bushing and go slow. Good light would be another idea. Duckdon

 Re: GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
Generally speaking, wood blades have less teeth per inch than blades that are made for cutting metal. This.is a general rule of thumb. The more teeth per inch, the easier it is to control the blade because its not bouncing off the material as much. That's why when you suggested using a wood blade I was confused.

 Re: GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
i suggested the wood blade because it wont cut the steel. you asked for advise and i gave you the proven method.

 Re: GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
dont worry, you not gonna mess anything up. put the wood blade in the bushing, cut it till it rubs the housing. do this in three places and you can pull out the bushing. i learned to use the wood blade because i was out of metal blades, and it worked so well and fool proof that it is the way I recommend everyone to do it. if you use the metal blade and accidentally cut the housing the new bushing wont fit/seal correctly.

 Re: GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
Could u pull it out wif a slide hammer? Or is the hole too small to get the teeth into to pull it out?

 Re: GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
maybe start your cut with a metal blade, then switch to a wood blade

 Re: GDSD Lower Bushing Replacement
Koda, You can find detailed instructions in the updated owners manuals. Remember that GDSD and GDLT's are a bit different. http://www.godevil.com/documents/Surfac ... mplete.pdf
