I do believe I'm gonna like this stuff and if I have to recoat every year or 2 so be it. I'll be repainting and touching up my hull every couple years anyway because that how I roll. It was really not a big deal to prep for and apply it. I didn't originally paint the bottom of my hull to begin with so it was not very labor intensive. Used some 60 grit flap wheels on my grinder which took what little paint off I had to with ease. I then went over the whole area where to give it something to bite on. I got the filler and used some of it on a couple decent hooks I had first. I was afraid that it would be a pita to spread and roll by the way some folks talked. However it is like thick paint and is pretty self-leveling. A gallon covered my 18x48 twice and then some. Actually I covered 16'x48" and then went 4" up the sides. I mixed it in 2 batches of 1/2 gl each. Pretty straight forward on the mix and you just need to measure both parts out equally. After alot of stirring I just poured it out over the hull and came back with a plastic trowl and spread it all around for a couple minutes as evenly as possible. Then I rolled it with a foam roller made for oil based paints. No fuzzies. I repainted the exterior and let it dry a couple days and put it back on the trailer this afternoon. In the past, once my boat was on the trailer it was there. I could bow up on it and fuge it an inch or 2 but that heavy mofo wasn't going anywhere. Now I can put one hand on the winch stand and with little effort shove it off the trailer with the other. Pretty damn slick. I have the Boatbuckle transom straps on the back but I am going to pick up the bow tie down also so this thing don't end up laying in the middle of the road somewhere.

Im not as worried about the stumps as I am about all the steel crap I have run over. Sunken blind and drill pipe drove in the bottom everywhere. I had some pretty bad gouges and scrapes on the bottom.

Oyster shells will chip it up - but like you said - if you are willing to touchup and redo
the application every year or two - it is some really good stuff an worth the effort...

Now I just got to finish up the interior. Had Willett add me a couple drank holders and fix a couple boo-boos before the steelflex and new paint.

I did the trailer 3 years ago. Its was coated with GrizzlyGrip first and then painted. GG is a roll on rubberized bed liner material that takes and holds paint great.

Looking good myboy! helped a podna a few months back get his rig off the hwy, it went back on the trailer nearly as fast as it can off with 3 guys. Didn't hurt it at all, just a couple little chips on the bottom welld on the transom.


Is the filler you used a steel flex product?

How many people did it take to flip your hull over?

That do look good .... but I wouldn't expect anythang any less from the Poker1's .... thats just how he rolls !!!!

Querston ~ I gots me some of that two-part stuff from FASCO down in Florida last month ... and he said it's fo fillin' in hooks ..... is that the same stuff you used on yore first application ??

This stuff has to be applied with specialized equipment but it is stronger than strong...check out the blast containment videos elsewhere on the page.

As soon as I feel like removing my motor, flipping the boat on the trailer, prepping it and hauling it to Seattle I can get this done. If I go through with this I will post up pics and a report.

Poker 1, thanks for the help. Got my boat sanded, added the filler, then added the steelflex once the filler dried. Turned out pretty well. I probably should have sanded down the filler some more so it doesnt look so rough where I added it, but I guess live and learn. I think I am going to like this stuff. Should have put it on my boat to begin with.

Finally finished with the paint. I don't know why I punish myself. lol Went a little darker this time. Got a little painting left to do on the motor. Got the lower half of the motor painted. I did a little testing with painted hydroturf and it seems to hold up fine. Time will tell though but it looks good for now.............

Painted on the numbers this time. Made me a stencil so I can just repaint when needed. Haven't found vinyl numbers that last more than a year or so in buckbrush.

Looks great. Wish I had the patience to work on my boat like that.
