 Baiting?
OK, so the rules state, duck hunters can't hunt over baited ponds or any waters. My problem is deer hunters do bait their hunting area. Not just before the season but during the season also. Food plots, corn, licks, acorn drops, c'mere deer, etc. This is all baiting. Why is there laws against baiting for waterfowl, but not for deer?

 Re: Baiting?
Deer aren't migratory, thus belong to the state, which decides it's own regs

 Re: Baiting?
technically it is illegal to bait any game.... Louisiana is just not that strict when it comes to deer.... go to Mississippi and get caught baiting deer and you will never have the privileged of hunting again. It is truly state dependent on how they treat their resident population.

MDWFP
"DECOYS AND BAIT It is illegal to hunt or trap any wild animal or wild bird with the aid of bait. Liquid scents may be used. Electrically operated calling or sound-reproducing devices may be used for hunting nuisance animals and crow only."
Key word being "ANY"

Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks....
In Louisiana it is legal (or overlooked from a legal standpoint) to bait on private land only.... public and WMA it is illegal

 Re: Baiting?
OK, but my point is we are in LA and its not illegal. States own all game except migratory birds so thats why individual states can decide on baiting laws. Its legal here but not in all states. Feds decide on baiting for migratory birds.

 Re: Baiting?
that is true.... but if you read the state laws they make no mention of baiting deer being legal only that it is illegal on WMAs and for migratory birds....
the fact that it is not even mentioned in the regs at all as being legal is a slight loop hole.... just what i was told at one time from a GW growing up... i do not know this for fact

 Re: Baiting?
Interesting point of views. I guess the laws are too vague and too many loop holes. Good information to know about Miss. though.

 Re: Baiting?
what is being overlooked here is the reason. Why it is legal in baiting some and not other game animals.
Supposidly wildlife managers use several tools to control how many of a species can be taken. One tool is how easy or hard it is to hunt that species. Make it harder, fewer animals can be taken and make it easier then more. This is the reason that some states and fed requires shotguns to be plugged to two plus one. Ya gotta stop and reload. LImit the hours to shoot, limit guage, limit bags and limit seasons.
Limit baiting and fewer animals will locate in your area therefore fewer can be taken.
Feds say not baiting and plugs. States can state their own conditions, but feds take precidence on migratory.
This is idealistic
