my first year was the last year of lead. #6 lead was a killer on the little ducks and 4s would reach waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out there.

 Re: lead
We used 2 3/4" #6. And alot of low brass at that. I can remember the old guys talking the city folks that had to use those 3" magnum canon shells to kill their ducks.

 Re: lead
I guess the high brass #6 I used was overkill, but it would knock the $hit out of em

 Re: lead
High brass 6's were awsome. We used dove loads on teal. There is no comparison between lead and steel. Steel has come a long way but it still is not as effective as lead,if it was you would not see all these high dollar composite loads.

 Re: lead
2 3/4" high brass #4's were bad to the bone.
And I faithfully hunted with my grandpaw's old Model 12. It was my go to duck gun.

 Re: lead
2.75" # 5's did a number on em back in the day. Of course the 2.75" # 4's did a number on em last Feb. and Dec. in Mexico.
