Post Re: public hunting
How many more threads are we gonna have about hunting public land? You guys have any idea how many people are too lazy to scout for themselves and do it all searching the web?

Yes, I would say most of us probably hunt public. No we do not want to talk about where we hunt or how we do. Or at least anyone who has half a brain would agree with that. Not saying that we would not help a friend that we met on the internet, but we are not(or at least should not) gonna discuss it on an open forum.

You want to find ducks, go find em on the lake, not on the www

Post Re: public hunting
All I've seen you post since you got on here is some nonsense about what du does for the ducks, or something to do with hunting public land. And you have posted where you hunt already, you didn't post gps coordinates, but you might as well have. Hope you are greeted this year by some of your fellow cyber scouters. They are the ones who set up fifty yards from you ten minutes before shooting time if you have a hard time figuring out which ones they are. :o

Rule of thumb, DON'T TALK ABOUT WHERE YOU'RE SHOOTING DUCKS ON THE INTERNET. Pics are cool, but not locations. Not even close locations. Public, private doesn't really matter, don't talk about it.

Some may call me an ass, but that's pretty much how I feel about it. There is enough asshats who have no clue out there already, without the www helping them to figure out where to go.

May make a difference to some of the other people who hunt that area. Thats my point. I know of at least 3 other members on here that are close to wear you are. I can't imagine they appreciate you runnin your dik sucker on the internet about their home territory. I'm just thankful those close to me are smart enough not to.

You have to think also, that you may need these guys to help you with something at some point. Whether it be, your stuck on the lake and need a tow, or just need a partner to go with. Or maybe your boat is broke and you need someone to take you. I can't see anyone wanting to help you with the attitude that you have. "don't make no difference to me" It just might one day. Thats all I'm saying.

Somebody please remove the soap box I've been standing on...

TO get a bit on course . Yes many of us do hunt public. From NWRs to WMA s to just public, and yes SOME of us do do well on SOME places, but as you can see from other posts, they are really touchy about their location. Those of us who are willing to travel and scout do well. You don't work you don't eat. I'm pretty sure that a few people here have been burned by those every now and then hunters and www scouters.

Post Re: public hunting
I like my tea sweet

Wasn't necessarily this particular post that ticked me off. There has been a bunch of em lately. Figured I'd say my piece and hope it at least slows down. But he has mentioned specific areas that he hunts more than once in his very few posts. Like I said, I know some others in his area and I can't imagine them being too happy with the info he's putting out there. I know I wouldn't be happy to read about my honey holes on the internet.

Its that time of year, the interweb scouters are out and about. Joining forums and trying to squeeze info. People would be much better off keeping their damn mouths shut, and letting these lazy phuks go do some scouting for themselves.

Not saying I've never asked for help, nor that I've never helped anyone. But use pm's, or go meet people at the ramps and build your own network off the www. Don't post up shit like, there's ducks at this wma, look at my avatar... Some people will give you a tip here and there, and some won't. But either way, keep your tips off of a public forum especially if you are listing specific areas. If you feel like you just have to post everything you know, at least use some kind of abbreviation so that only those who actually know where you're talking about will understand. Then it doesn't pop up on a yahoo search either.

Like I said before, the people you are pissing off, may be the same ones you need some help from at some point.

Clay, if you're not nice to ghd, he's not gonna take you to his honey hole so you can have a picture like his avatar!

For anyone who doesn't know cb outside of this site, I'll say he has a right to be a little protective of some spots being broadcasted on the net. He does more scouting than most people I know.

And at the same time, he kills a lot of ducks and has taken several new hunters over the past few season to some really good spots.

Make dad gone sure when you post pics that there is nothing in the background giving your location or boat ramp away. I made the mistake a few years ago posting pics of mallards and canada geese my pard and I shot three days in a row with no competition. One pic had a sign marking some Indian site way in the background and if you have seen this sign you know exactly where I was launching at. Make a long story short the next several days were interesting. A lot of guys lurk and never post or sign up just for that reason. I really don't care too much because I have all kinds of places to hunt but it sure was nice have a big ol river sandbar with lots of green to ourselves.
I spoke to a guy at the ramp and asked him how he knew about this spot and he said a buddy of his seen some pics on the internet with the injun sign in the back. I have no one to blame but I quit posting pics during the season just for that reason. I hunt alot on the rivers near my home and can scout way more areas than most and it sure sucks when you trip up and have to deal with a bunch of idiots at 0430.

I've been watching the same thing over and over for years, on several outdoor forums and just don't understand it.

Duck hunting can be hard work. You have to enjoy being out there no matter what. Every year people get into a panic as teal and duck season approaches. If you plan on hunting, get out there and do some scouting for yourself.

The way I look at it, if you are going duck hunting, then go scouting. In that case, its just another reason to go fishing for God's sake. The weekend before teal season is always the Labor Day weekend. Most people have off for three days. I fish and scout at the same time. BY the time that weekend was over I had been fishing and scouting for three days straight and was ready to go back to work. When it was over I knew where the birds were and weren't and was ready to make a decision. That's all you can do. Maximize the time you have and run with it.

That is all.

I hunt with a small select group,we all have land that we own or lease. We work out where we will hunt according to where the ducks are and we never go uninvited to another guys spot.

Nothing will piss you off more than finding someone you know hunting one of your holes with a boat load of dipshits.

I sometimes hunt public and I do ok there, but I never go on weekends.

I dont know about yal but i hate opening day and i hate right after christmas. Opening day of teal the dumbforks around here shoot everything that flies and after christmas all these 12 year old kids got new toys and are taking the 400 yard high shots at birds that arnt even ducks. The maddest i have ever been i pulled up into my blind at 15 mins before day light to find that a dad has dropped his son off in my blind and is now telling me he has the right to hunt there so i told him scoot over im getting in there with you and after that nothing was said his dad was very mad to see me in my own blind on land only i have premission to hunt....strange right?
