 Mounting a electric winch
I looking at mounting an electric winch. what i am wondering is the front of my boat strong enough to handle the winch and the pulling. only going to use it for self recovery if i put the boat up on the bank. I have a 1748 pd boat with the flat bow. any sugestions pics would be a great help

 Re: Mounting a electric winch
Was looking a haveing a plate welded to the front and then bolt it to the plate that is welded on. I don't want it to tuch the front deck. that alumimum dosn't seem like it would be strong enough to handle the stress. there is aprox 8'' where the bow light is mouonted

I had a local shop do this on my rig, i asked the douche to put some angle iron/alum on the back edge but for what ever reason he did not. I drilled the holes and mounted the winch through the top plate and the deck.
first day out with the set up I pull my 17x48 full of water, up to the bank by the wallisville ramp with the 2500 warn.

 Re: Mounting a electric winch
Im glad you were there and were able to get the truck that close to the cable... it would have been a total loss for sure

 Re: Mounting a electric winch
Here are a couple pics from the phone. I just added an eye to the back of the flat mounting plate that came with the winch. Either use a short piece of chain or shackles to connect to the eye on the bow or stearn. Some have mentioned the winch getting into the water. I have the extra eye on my bow but even if I have to hook to the outside eyes I have been standing outside the boat while winching anyway and I dont see the winch getting into the water.

 Re: Mounting a electric winch
Got a chance to put it to the test again when I got a little off track. But thats why I always carry plenty of rope and a change of clothes in a dry bag. Water is super low right now. Its gonna take a week of showers to get this putrid swamp smell washed off.
