i have the older style go-devil were it is a brass sleeve and rubber seal at the top of the frame by the u-joint, after i run it for about 20-30 mins, smoke starts to come frome inside the frame were my shaft goes. is this a big problem, i have enough grease in there, so is this the grease just getting really hot or what?

If it is getting hot enough to smoke it's a problem. It will probably cook your seals. Sounds like the shaft isn't centered in the upper bushing. Has the engine or universal been moved recently? Have you hit something hard enough to bend the outer tube?

it isnt alot of smoke, also its a brand new shaft and sleeve and seals. when i brought it over to my local go-devil dealership, they told me that its just the grease inside their that is getting extremly hot, should i try a different type of grease? if so which kind?

The new info helps. Sounds like the clearance between bushing and shaft is tight and that's not necessarily bad. Normal wear will center the shaft in the bushing and it should stop getting hot over time. As long as the paint on the outer tube doesn't blister you should be good to go. Use whatever grease the dealer recommends. I've been using Chevron #2 red chassis and wheel bearing grease for over 20 years with good results. If the heat cooks the seals you will know it by a puddle of grease forming under the upper seal collar.

yep you are right, i remeber it was a kinda tight fit for the shaft in that sleeve. but i defintely doesnt get hot enough for the paint to start blistering, thanks for the info
