Would a 2,000lbs ATV winch work for pull a 17' prodrive with a 36hp prodrive motor out of trouble. I would guess the worst would be sand on the Mississippi river in my parts.

it should work. I went with complete overkill with my winch and got a 10,000lb winch. This is because all winches no matter what brand have plastic gears in them that are rated for less than 10,000lbs. Mine is also waterproof which is another reason i went with it.

i use a promark 3000 and i have pulled a couple boats over dry ground no problem, havent had to use the snatch block yet. i got it off ebay for 148 shipped and it came with everything needed. i figured it wouldnt be that great for the price but it has more than payed for its self.

Well I ordered the winch last night. Now I have to figure out how to mount it. Does anyone have any ideas? I've got a trolling motor mount, but I really would like to mount it on the right hand side of the boat (driver's side). There's a tube for a post for keeping the boat in place, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be strong enough. I could add a few more stiffners to that or just make a mounting plate. I would love to see pic or hear ideas! Kill'n ducks now till Dec 5th so won't start the project for a couple of weeks. Have to get out while they are here

Punch out anouther Hole (Like a spud pole hole) in the bow of your boat, make a bracket for the wench weld a pole the size of your hole to the bottom of the wench bracket and just plug it in stab it in the hole and go with it, that way the wench can swivel around from what ever direction your pulling and not put the cable in a bind!

I didn't want mine out and in the way of things on the bow. A simple chain and shackle work just fine. I store it out the way in a bag along with 200' of rope which give me around 250' to play with.

I have a 12v trolling motor plug on the front deck and rear pod. The TM, winch and HH lights will plug in to either one.

I had a piece of square aluminum welded on the front of my boat and mounted the winch on a smaller piece of aluminum drilled a hole through both pieces and use a receiver hitch pin. I also used a 12v trollmotor plug up front, this way I can keep the winch in storage box untill needed.

do yall think a seatbase mounted up front would be strong enough if a bracket was made for the winch with a pin on the bottom that would stick in the seat base? it could also serve two purposes if someone wanted to sit that far forward

I've got a spud hole in the back in front. Does one think you could stiffen those up to use them. I do like the chain idea.

bfenn, what are you using to winch off of out in the marsh where there are no trees or other boats around? Anyone else have suggestions??? I have heard people talk about using t-post, but never seen it work...Dont want the extra weight of a big ol anchor either.

I just made a homemade duckbill tree anchor out of 3/4" pipe x 12" long. I welded the end shut with a 3/4" cold roll. I welded a nut in the middle and attached a cable to set it. Then, I put a nut on the end with a cable to retrieve it. You insert a 3/4" rod and drive it in with a piece of the 3/4" cold roll however deep you need and attach your win h line to the middle line. I haven't gotten the opportunity to try it yet but it should work if you can get it a ouple feet into some hard stuff. Google duckbill tree anchor and you will see what it looks like but mine is angled on both ends and has an extra cable on the end to upright it to pull it out.

Heres one I haven't finished yet. You can use however long cable and driving rod you need to bite in whatever you ride in.

No I haven't. Ive driven it about 3' in the ground and set it good in the pond at work. Didn't winch off it. I was able to pull it out after wrapping hthe cable around a pipe to use as a handle. On one site the guy uses a pipe slid through the retrieval line eye to pry it out the ground. I wasn't sure how long to make it because of the varying conditions we run. I'm just gonna let the winch set it however tight it needs it. Once I'm over it I'll let the winch retrieve it if it doesn't sink the boat first.

That's some 1/4". That was what I had laying around and just used it for the picture. I will probably use 5/16 cause I have a light boat.

Any of ya'll ever seen the ones the fourwheeler guys use to pull themselves out of sticky situations when there are no tree's, i ve heard them talked about but never seen one. Heard you just through them and they stick anywhere.

No I haven't. I finished it up by putting heavier cable and a lil paint. Just never took it out to try. Hadn't been hunting much with this boat lately. I hadn't forgot about the post and will leave a review when I try it.

please do. I'm thinking I might put a winch on the boat at work and would have to use a set up simillar to yours if it pans out. I sat on a sand bar for 5 hours last Tuesday waiting on the tide and was thinking about this setup the entire time.

all i had to buy was the cable. the pipe and nuts I had laying around and I'm using an old LT shaft to drive it with. You may be better off just making one instead of waiting on me because I've only gotten stuck bad enough to use it once in the past couple years. We're working on a houseboat in our spare time when we go hunting so I don't know if I'll get around to testing it until I need it. Sorry.

Has anyone tested this style of winch point yet? Where I hunt there are no trees to winch from, only sand bottom.

Still haven't used it. Been busy building the camp on the beach.
