 Huntdeck pro's and con's
Very new to the mud rig arena so I will be asking many questions in the coming months in order to make sure I put together the package that will best suit me.
What are the pro's and con's on a boat rigged with a GTR?
Would you order a boat with a tall transom or short transom in conjunction with a huntdeck?
Would you order a tall or short outdrive when utilizing a huntdeck?
Thanks!!!

12232010 008.JPG I love mine!I have a tall transom. It really is nice for the dog to get in when hunting deeper water. It is nice for my old ass to get in too No water gets in boat when backing up hard also Well worth the money!!!!

I can't think of any drawbacks with the hunt deck.

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
We are in and out of the boat quite quite a bit, plus I like the idea of no water in the hull when backing up. Reminds me of the transom brackets on the offshore boats. Let's say I get a boat with tall transom and huntdeck, do I get a tall motor or a short motor?

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
if you have a tall transom you buy a tall transom motor and vice versa. The lower unit still has to get down to the water. Don't let the addition of the huntdeck confuse you.

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
Whats the purpose of tall transom and huntdeck?
Wont it just give it a higher profile? Does it help with less backwash on the huntdeck?

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
Tall transom and Huntdeck are the way to go.
The points made above are very valid. Another thing to consider is the future. If you ever decide to swap to an outboard most of the 40 to 60 HP I've seen are long shafts.

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
If I could change anything about my hull it would be to add a hunt deck. I could do without the water in the boat after reversing hard. Pros: get in and out of boat easier, dog also, less water when reversing, cool factor Cons: less usable hull space for the actual length of the boat - so, really no negatives - just get it cause I wish I did!

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
I have a hunt deck on my gator trax and it was an awesome addition. One thing I've noticed is that it helps the boat run extremely level compared to others I've seen. I can put three people near the back of my boat and not loose a single MPH.

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
The only con I can think of, and maybe ya'll can shed light on this, is...
is it a pain in the ass to put your plug in, all the way up under the huntdeck?
Not that that would outweigh getting one.

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
I like that aspect... Makes me always double check it to make sure its in okay, and no not a PITA mine sits maybe 8" back? I get in the boat to put the plug in which maybe is the only downside, most can lean over the boat and put the plug in

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
even if you have a screw in type. It would suck for it to vibrate loose and fall out. At least when they are in da boat you can put it back in.

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
mine came standard with a screw in water tight access on the top standard from gator tail and the plug is on a cord so you dont have to search for it

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
On my Gator Trax one plug goes inside which is for the water in the boat and the other outside which drains out the hunt deck if water gets in it. The hunt deck only has one place to put a plug and it's outside.

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
Ya I have gatortrax too and that's how mine is. Haven't been a problem. But if the plug comes out of the hunt deck there's no way for water to get in the boat.

 Re: Huntdeck pro's and con's
does a hunt deck with a short trasnom stop the water in reverse as good as the tall transom
