Re: Any one run a PD with remote steer on center console pro
I have Remote steering on a CC. I hooked up Hydraulic steering in my rig.. Very easy to drive, but CAN NOT go through what a tiller can.
GOOD LUCK>.

Re: Any one run a PD with remote steer on center console pro
well when you get in the thick stuff, with a tiller you can pick up on the handle and shove the prop down to get bite. With a CC it will just kick up and ride on top of the mud/grass. But im sure things will change sooner or later

And also when grass or lillies get hung up on the front of the lower unit while you're tryin to take off, you cant pick it up out of the water to clear it like you can with the tiller.

If the CC is far enough back, then you can still lift the motor to clear vegetation with one hand and keep the other on the steering wheel.

Re: Any one run a PD with remote steer on center console pro
Hydraulic trim and tilt with the lock down works just fine holding the motor down. What you lose is the ability to grind the motor back and forth like you can with a tiller. You can do ti with the steering wheel, but not as quickly and with as much force. You do give up a little 4x4 b/c of this, but not as much as people like to think. I have had both I wouldn't have it any other way for the areas that I hunt.
I have only been dead stuck once (that I couldn't work out of) and that was high ad dry on top of a bed of cattails that I could walk on. I had to be pulled out, but the remote steering was not the problem....

Re: Any one run a PD with remote steer on center console pro
I've been back and forth on this same issue with several boat owners and am building a CC PD with hyd. remote steering right now.
Rearding manuverability, there are several factors I've been told to watch for, and the only one that I can find that seems really valid is the inability to work the tiller back and forth to grind out ... very true statement. But other than that, I think the rest are matters of opinion.
As far a turning is concerned and tight corners: 1. Consider a pointed bow, especially in the timber you can use the bow to leverage your way around and through trees almost "by feel" using the bow to help steer your rig. Aside from this, with a flat front, you're eventually going to come to a FAST dead stop hitting a tree if you run your boat often enough.
2. The PD has a engage/disengage button (the actual name escapes me) on the clutch that you can use in short bursts to briefly engage the clutch and turn slowly at a much tighter radius
3. The cable steering has a bit of a lapse in it regarding response ... I'd highly consider the hyd. steering ... which you can steer quickly with your pinky if you so desire. This makes up for a lot of "lost manuverablity" ditching the tiller.
Basically ... you just have to learn your limitations and how to take full advantage of what capabilities the boat has.

Re: Any one run a PD with remote steer on center console pro
This is all fairly accurate. But you do lose some maneuverability and some 4x4 capabilities with the the remote set up. Your turning radius will be wider than a tiller using the momentary switch or not, and you will find your self eventually in a situation that you wish you could grind the motor out. BUT- the limitations are not as bad as people think IMO, and have really not been a factor for me. You just have to know what your boat will and will not do and drive accordingly.
What you gain is a boat with 95% of the mud motor performance characteristics in a package that is as easy to drive as an out board. It makes the 5-10 mile runs easy. But it just depends on what you want and where you are going to use it. Where I run, if money is not the issue, it would be a no brainer.

If you are runnin in timber, a tiller would be my choice 100 times over.
It only takes a second to swing it to the side and goose it if you have too.

Ya'll got to remember though ... he's got a medical issue that's "preventing" him from using a tiller ...
