Removing the skeg guard on a pd36
I am not sure what you call it, but it is the welded strip of metal on the very bottom of the skeg on a PD36. The very end of this piece is worn enough that sometimes I have to bend it back straight with a hammer because it starts to contact the prop. Some people I know remove the entire strip for supposedly a little better performance.
My question is for those who have removed it, how difficult is it and what is the best way to remove it....grinding wheel?
Thanks

Re: Removing the skeg guard on a pd36
If you remove the entire strip you will eat up your skeg up because it is aluminum. The mudbuddy and go devil skegs aren't aluminum, don't know about gt. Thats why they don't eat up. If you want the little better performance grind the strip down so that it isn't as wide on the edge, and cut the end off sticking under the prop. That will make your prop come in more contact with whatever you hit though. I personally don't think you will see a noticable difference in performance.

Re: Removing the skeg guard on a pd36
if you take it completely off to run lillies it will make a world of a difference.... But if you hit logs it can and will eventually break the lower unit.
my buddy ran lillies with his off that I could only look at!

I guess it would wear pretty good, if you drug it down the highway. But I don't see any on mine I been running for a good while now. If you run hard bottom you can get down more for a better bite and the flatter angle catches less veggies at slower speeds. This is a BayouBoy made skeg. I'll cut them off mine from now on.

Did Preston just trim the factory one? Or is it made out of all new and different material?

New one he made, same material. It can still bend on a hard stump impact but runs better IMO.
