Im going to be picking up my new hull from Jason next week sometime and I will be painting it myself. I am throwing around some ideas on how to paint the floor and other flat surfaces of it to keep it from being slick when wet. Any ideas? I dont want to hydroturf it. Also how well does putting a store bought bedliner material work? anyone ever done it? How aout sherwin williams sharkgrip? Its supposed to add grip but i have never used it?

If you're just lookin for non slip, go to Lowe's paint dept & pick up a bag of sand to add to ya paint. It's a small blue bag about the size of a qt ziploc baggie. I can't remember the name of it, but it was near the garage floor paint. The directions said to mix it into your paint & apply it with the brush or roller, do NOT do that. All it will do is clump up. Apply a coat of paint & spread some sand over it, then apply a 2nd coat of paint over the sand to seal it in. Works as good as the paint you're using.

I picked up some Rustoleum bed liner in the gallon from the Walmart for 45 bucks, mixed half a coffee cup of bead blasting material, and coated my floors about 3 times between drying. I am very happy with it! It is a rough surface so no slipping. I would put it up against any Rhino Liner or Line-X out there!

if you can get your hands on some crushed walnut shells to either mix in your paint or paint one coat then sprinkle out over your floor, let dry and put another coat over them. the crushed shells work excellent.

Bed liner + mud = slick as Owl $hit

My buddy owned a rhino liner dealership until a couple of years ago, he highly recommend against putt'n it in my boat.

x2 on the sand and good paint. Forget Lowes, they want too much for for something you can get free. I found a nearby construction site where they mix concrete on the spot and got a pint or so of their fine sand. Playground sand works good, too. I had no trouble with it clumping, as i didn't use too much and stirred it in real well with the paint in a paint tray. It'll last longer if you apply thin and let each coat tack up a bit. Apply two or three coats and you're good to go.

turtle / fish tank sand is what i used sprayed the first coat of paint then sprinkled sand on to the texture i wanted then sprayed the second coat came out great

DO NOT USE BEDLINER!!! I'm thinking of scrappin that crap off my boat. If you need crushed walnut shells go to a pet store and it is in the reptile department for bedding. if you want the best get hydroturf and be done with it

I feel like the sand will just wear off really quickly.. Is this the case? I dont want to afro engineer anything but i also dont want to throw another $800 or so at hydroturf. Im sure it is good but i will have to wait a little while and save some money to do that.
I have had bad experiences with bed liner in boats...it just never seems to work out very well. Does the sand in the paint actually last or is it a ghetto fix?

Do it yourself. You can hydroturf the boat for under 200 bucks... They have factory second's on their web page cheap.

If done right the sand will work

I used parkers duck boat in dead grass and I like it. The color was a bit iffy at first but it grew on me. I also used an automotive primer that a guy recommended to me that really helped it hold, so far it has hardened really well and I haven't seen any flake/chip/or scratch off yet. i also have about half a gallon left over after painting my boat so if it were to get scratched or chipped ill have a bit more to touch it up, if need be. Bro if your gonna do this use the sand like said before BUT don't use reggular paint the sand will pell off the paint . Use two part epoxy with a flatting agent , it will not come off.

I did this to my last boat. I used a gallon and did the entire floor, front deck, gun box and top of gunnels with 2 coats. Very easy to put on with a rollr and extremely tough!! Lasted thru 5 duck seasons and i only had to redo one spot because the saw leaked gas...scraped around the edge and re-rolled that spot and it was as good as new!

Use Duralux M736 it will stick to bare aluminum after you wash it with aluma brite to etch the surface. spray on a light coat sprinkle sugar sand aka blasting sand then put on a good heavy caot of pait to finish it. dont use play sand or the sand for traction from Lowes or Home Depot it is too big and will "roll" causing you paint to come off where ever the grains are. Duralux can be bought from Ace Hardware in Covington 985-893-1212 <----- number for Ace... O'reily's has the aluma brite.

A gallon did the entire boat and had a little left over! Yes it will take a hold paint really well! It was an easy way to have a non skid tough surface for about 80 bucks! I will look and see if i got any more pics with paint on the tuff coat.

Can't think of a single reason you wouldn't want hydroturf? It's only a couple hundred bucks if you get the diamond pattern grey stuff, and nothing else comes close to being as nice.
