Has anyone ever tried running the bracing/bunks on a trailer lateral?

Thought is there have been issues with bunks hitting right in the "groove" on the longitudinal bracing on the boats and causing a hook.

The trailers were all designed originally to handle boats with lateral bracing and so therefore it made sense to run the bunks longitudinal, but if the boat bracing is now longitudinal doesn't it make more sense to run the trailer bunks lateral? Obviously, you would have to use a number (more than 2!) of them and the number would depend on the length of the boat..

Just curious if anyone has tried this or has any thoughts about it....

Wouldn't it be easier to just adjust your boards to make sure they are sitting on your braces?

What about swaping out the standard 2x4 runners to 2x6 runners. Most bracing on boats is what 1 or 2 inches wide? By using 2x6's, it would give you alot more room for the boards to hit on the braces without having to be so accurate with loading the boat.

Mine can only move about an inch or so side to side. 2x6 layed on side and axle over gets the boat down lower and makes it easier to launch in shallow areas. I don't know why everyone puts their side bunks up high. I run my boat up on the trailer so even my low bunks are halfway out of the water when loading. Boat slides on the same every time.
