 Re: ruger 204
Yep - I've got the 204 in a Weatherby Sub-MOA with a bull barrel. I went through 3 Remington 700 VTRs before I swore them off and upgraded to the Weatherby. The VTRs made some big claims, but couldn't come anywhere close to backing them up. The Weatherby does, and with flying colors.
I bought mine for a coyote rifle, even though I have yet to shoot it at a coyote (dammit!). It's a bad mamma-jamma fo-sho!

Here's a ballistic chart comparison: http://www.chuckhawks.com/rifle_ballistics_table.htmcombine that speed & retained energy with little to no muzzle jump and that equals winner in my book.

 Re: ruger 204
Yeah, I probably should have added that I have heard nothing but positives from the VTRs in every other caliber. I got one and put a Bushnell Elite on it. Shot every available round through it from sand bags, vice and free hand. Every time, and with every round, the pattern would be all over the paper at 100 yards. Swapped the gun out with the dealer and the same thing happened. Then went with a Leupold Vari-X III on the second rifle. Same results. Swapped the gun out again to a third VTR with the Vari-X and still the same results. I was DEEPLY invested in just ammo by this point. Returned the 3rd gun and went with the Weatherby with the Vari-X on top. Sucker is making Mickey Mouse heads at 100 yards now. Consistently.
Best we could figure out is that is has something to do with the pegs inside the plastic stock on the VTR. They are touching the barrel of the 204 and we think that it is interfering with the normal barrel recoil/action when shot. Whatever it is, something is definitely wrong there.

 Re: ruger 204
And when I say "all over the paper," I'm talking about at least 8" - 10" variances. High-right to left-center to low-right to bullseye. They were everywhere.

 Re: ruger 204
2 of my buddies just picked up VTR's in 308. I was looking at getting one myself, but am not impressed with the stock. Wish Remington still made the 700 VS with the H&S stock, I have one in 223 and love it.
Kicking around the idea of a new target rifle and a 308 is on the list. Coon fingered some Coopers at Scheels in ND, they were sweet looking, but didin;t have any in 308. Plus I'd like to have more than a single shot...
