MB Big Blade vs. GT Big Blade Review
After wearing through GT props I decided to try the MB 12.25" prop for my GTR. At 180 bucks a piece I bought two and hoped like hell it wasn't a waste of money. On my original post concerning the props, I was asked to write a review on the prop so here it is:
To keep it short, with my GTR 35, the stock GTR prop wins handsdown in every category except one:
The GTR prop is 1-1.5 mph faster than the MB. GTR has noticably better hole shot in both clean water and mud. GTR carries a load better. GTR performs much better in heavy vegetation.
However, the MB prop is holding up MUCH better than the GT prop. At 35 hours with the GTR I had noticable wear on the prop w/ about 1/8"-1/4" lost. At 40 hours, the MB is showing no signs of wear whatsoever. The prop looks basically brand new, the only change is the that the leading edges look more polished than out of the box. No measurable loss. Keep in mind that both props were put through the exact same conditions (running the same traps every day).
From my experience (which it may/will vary from others), on my boat. the GT prop is a much better performer than the MB, but the MB is much more durable.
I am very happy with the MB prop, it has held up like I hoped it would. But as soon as crawfish season is over, the GT is going back on.

Re: MB Big Blade vs. GT Big Blade Review
The GT prop has a thin trailing edge a thicker one last longer but sacrifices speed etc. I have tried many props and best is GT prop 10P. If you can run 11P then go for it. 12P is too much lol

I ran a hopkins 12x12 on my old motor and it was a beast. Your motor needs a set of nuts to swing it though. Some folks have had bad luck with hopkins props slinging flukes. They are not cheap but they hold up well to wear.

Re: MB Big Blade vs. GT Big Blade Review
This sounds more like an "unbiased" review. I'm curious DDM, what did you think of the MB prop?

Re: MB Big Blade vs. GT Big Blade Review
The Hopkins 12x12 is 1 mph slower and is way slower out the hole it trims put well and lifts the ass end of the boat but is just a Lil to big for the gt. I had them made in a 11 inch and they performed well that was what I ran before the big blade!!

Re: MB Big Blade vs. GT Big Blade Review
The 12x12 I ran was slower out the hole but I got better top end with it at lower rpms. With a big load it didn't do as well either. I compared it side by side in the same conditions on the same day.

Re: MB Big Blade vs. GT Big Blade Review
I am running Dog Walkers hopkins now and its still holding up. Like they said slower out the hole but I run 31-32mph at 3800 rpms. Its a progerssive pitch and thats why is takes a little longer to get up. I dont find a difference in the mud but the hopkins runs better through grass and lillies.

Re: MB Big Blade vs. GT Big Blade Review
So...just curious. Has anyone ever run the GatorTail prop on a Hyperdrive and was it faster than the MB Big Blade?

Re: MB Big Blade vs. GT Big Blade Review
I bought a MB prop after wearing out my GT prop and I had the same results as everyone else... I have put some mods on my boat and still never ran a good(New) GT prop yet.. My old GT prop is 11" now... I cant wait to buy one to see the full results!!
I will run the MB prop during duck season hunting the Wax being it well hold up a little better in all that sand, but as for fishing and just riding I will deff have another GT prop!!!!
Hands down GT prop wins this battle for GTR Morors!

MB Big Blade vs. GT Big Blade Review
The mb prop will fit on the gt but the gt won't fit on the mb!! He couldn't copy the hex shaft to the exact sizes!!
