 Changing a short shaft to long shaft
Any one ever change a 27hp. PD from a short shaft to long shaft?? How big of job is it? Lynn

order the kit from KP at PD. Unbolt the powerhead and pull it off the frame..then remove the lower unit. Take the remaining part to a aluminum welder and have them weld on the collar extension. Put everything back together with the parts you got from PD and your done. Kit comes with installation instructions. If you don't have FPR this is a excellent time to install it also since you have everything apart.

Yup we had one without. Both the one's we have right now how reverse though. I just did the tall transom conversion on mine. No big deal at all. Parts were about 250. My buddy welded it for free. You do need to find someone with a big ass TIG machine though. It is some thick ass aluminum.

Thanks guys for the replies. I will order the parts today. When ur talking FPR is that full power reverse??? I have manual reverse on this unit. Again thanks for the response. Lynn

I did the conversion from short to tall on my 36 HP PD. Most difficult part was the welding, but if you hire it done or have a bud that can weld aluminum it is no big deal. Other than that, it's dis-assembly and re-assembly. Half a day and a half rack of beer between two guys.
And I am agreed on the full power reverse. It is why I bought a PD in the first place. Wouldn't do without it.
