 mud buddy trim
Hey yall. Question is last time I took my rig out the trim acted up a few times. Nothing major. Just if I was trimming up or down it would hesitate pretty good. Normal? And do yall have the bolts on the trim slide super tight or what? Bud of mine swore it needed to be lifted into lock position and cranked on. Now when I trim down it doesn't allow it to dig deep so I loosened it up some and got it where I think it needs to be. Any help is appreciated cuz I'm still new to the surface drive world

 Re: mud buddy trim
What yr? The older ones with baer and thompson trim were subject to go out....i think more so than the newer motors with the mercury trim.

 Re: mud buddy trim
The older trim was loose on the bottom. When in travel position, the trim wasn't even touching the bottom of the slide.

 Re: mud buddy trim
If the bolts are tight, it can't travel. They NEED to be loose. If they're tight & you hit something, shit's gonna get broke.

 Re: mud buddy trim
Does make sense camo. I guess the only thing that was getting me was when it was on the trailer and the bolts were loose it didnt trim up very high. So being in the water and starting off will start to level motor and then I just adjust trim as necessary?

 Re: mud buddy trim
Basically, yes. When you're in nasty stuff, you trim it down to get a bite, then trim it back up until it's runnin like you want it to.

 Re: mud buddy trim
Sounds great camo. Actually went and loosened bolt up. She slides like a charm now with no hang-up and trimmed all the way down looks like it'll get on down in the mud. Preciate it bud!

 Re: mud buddy trim
my buddy has a 23 mbsd and the trim has gone out about twice now in less than a year. you can tell when it starts to go out it sounds like its got sand in it and it hesitates like you said.

 Re: mud buddy trim
The Baer trim unit was garbage, the Thompson is better, but the new Mercury hydrolic trim unit is by far the best yet. The Baer can be easily replaced with the Thompson, but to go to the Merc, you have to replace the entire transom mount. If he already has the Thompson, he can go to lectrotab.com & buy the actuators cheaper than replacing the entire trim unit.

 Re: mud buddy trim
I've got the thompson trim on it and its running fine now that I loosened the trim slide bolts. Was my prob the whole time. Ran it most of yesterday at oak island in the inlets. Only bad sound is when the skeg and prob hit the oyster beds. Good thing my new big blade should be in soon

 Re: mud buddy trim
Why does most everyone on here associate manual trim and no clutch with GDSD when in fact mudbuddy makes models with manual trim and no clutch also. So what makes the GDSD better than the manual trim no clutch mudbuddy??????????????????????? Only GDSD part i have is a 12x12 modified bore size propeller on a min 24 hp honda, and it performs better than you would imagine. A few here have seen it run too.

 Re: mud buddy trim
OH LORD, THANK YOU FOR THE CHOICES WE HAVE RECIEVED!!! I could plow a garden w/ a mule or 2011 John Deere w/ cab and air. Could live in a clap board house w/ tin roof wifout no ndoor plummin and 1 window unit in famly room for company or the playboy mansion. Could drive a 74 scout w/out power steering, a/c and widows you had to help up w/ your palms or a 2011 Denali. Boats are just the same. w/ small conveniences that make life more enjoyable also come added maintenance. I am glad for the choice to be lazy!
