 Gator Glide
Just finished my gator glide on my boat last week. HOLY S(*&t that stuff is rediculously slick! I had teflon bunk slides on my bunks. I honestly think I could grab the back of the boat with one hand and sling it off the tralier in the yard! I cant wait to feel it run across some lillies!

 Re: Gator Glide
How hard is it to put it on? I dont have a way to flip the boat over but really would like to do this since lillies is what I run in the most.

 Re: Gator Glide
no need to turn over. It rolls on really easy. No dripping. The first coat will look like crap but the second gets better coverage. If possible do 3 coats. a gallon will prob do 3 on most boats. it dries in about 15-20 min between coats and then leave suspended for at least a day. I just winched my boat up to the rafters in My garage.

Does anyone here have any long term experience with Gator Glide? I've also been looking into Wetlander as well...

 Re: Gator Glide
dont learn the hard way, keep bow line attached until in the water, or have a plan to get it back on the trailer at the top of the ramp. really steel flex ,frog spit its all about the same. and it will dump itself in the landing. you WILL thank me later

 Re: Gator Glide
Broke down and bought the chit, have a buddy in the crane business and we lifted the boat yesterday. I sanded the sides and the bottom with P120, wiped it down with acetone and started rolling. Super easy to apply, started at the back and about the time you get to the front, drink a half a beer and you can apply another layer. It turned out great, I am waiting a couple days just to make sure it's cured but this chit is some kind of slick. With the boat on the trailer, I can grab the front rail with my thumb and index finger only and slide the boat back and forth. Will follow up after some time in the field...

 Re: Gator Glide
I hear it makes it faster... I dunno
I guess it could be once it chips it may get the water turbulent under the boat...
I would rather be able to slide off/over chit easier than be 1 mph faster anyway.

 Re: Gator Glide
I dont know anything about steel flex but I dont see how Gator Glide can "chip", its very thin...
Faster on vegetation maybe but open water may not make a difference. I decided to use it because of sliding over logs and running thick veggies, not alot of mud where I go...
Here are some pics, you can still see the welding through the coat. I bought the half gallon and applied 3 full coats plus a forth thin coat on the bottom to use it all up (17x54 hull with 21 sides).

 Re: Gator Glide
how far up the side of the boat would you need to apply it, just curious if it does any good to go up to the waterline.
i have looked at this stuff and done some research, the airboat boys swear by it, and easy to re-apply once it wears down.

 Re: Gator Glide
So far so good other than its makes loading the boat more challenging. I can really tell a difference when I get on the lake bottom with lillies roots, its alot easier to get the boat moving again if you happen to stop. Plus, I can slide right over the floaters when this used to give me a hard time... I went over one yesterday that was 45 yards long with the motor skipping across the whole way. I never thought that the boat was not going to make it.

Forgot to mention it was slightly raining so the top was wet, may not be the case on a dry sunny day...but was still impressive

 Re: Gator Glide
Have you tried to trailer the boat solo on a steep ramp? What is the trick...keep it in gear to keep it in place until you can hook it?

 Re: Gator Glide
Im pretty sure they make a little automatic hook that grabs the eye when you push it onto it, kinda like a carabineer
Its all got to perfectly align though.

 Re: Gator Glide
Steelflex. I have my side bunk tight and they are long. The boat always goes on straight to the hook. Whatever woodie is talking about would work the way my trailer is set up.

 Re: Gator Glide
I drove up to the ramp and only canoes and little jon boats that people could carry were in the water. I backed down to side of the ramp and a few people were looking at me like what the hell does he think he's gonna do? all four tires of the truck are in the water too I unhook the boat, give her a push and off the trailer she goes The transom is on the bottom in the picture. I pull the trailer out from under it, park the truck and haul ass looking at the people on the bank still scratching their heads As for loading back up with the bungs slightly out of the water, you can either hop it up on the trailer with the motor and hook it right then or pull the strap out of the winch and crank it up, very easy. (if your strap will reach the back of the trailer) BUT make damn sure it is hooked and the winch in locked So far I'm loving the chit it is super slick and just makes everything easier to handle, it's like the boat lost half it's weight when trying to move it

 Re: Gator Glide
There's no difference in deep water at all to me, the difference is when you get into thick stuff. It will slide ALOT further and easier but far as turning, mine turns about the same, you just have to let off a little more and then get back in it to turn. You will notice it glides more after you let off the gas.
All in all, I've very happy with it in the vegetation I run, as soon as you put a few hours on it, it's like anything else, you'll get used to it and how to drive it. But the benefits are worth it.
O yeah and cleaning it is nothing, everything just falls off of it...

 Gator Glide
I just ordered a half gallon of it. I run alot of oyster bars in the summer and knocked the steel flex off pretty quick and there's not an easy way to patch the bad spots.
At least with this, it appears that I can just recoat the boat, with minimal prep, each fall before duck season.
