Post PD pipe plug
Serviced my engine yesterday and changed the oil in the lower unit. Not only did it have some water in it but when I went to grease the lower unit fitting I saw I have no pipe plug. I am suppose to have one right? Is this how the water is getting in and how serious is it?

Page 15 of owners manual for short shank LU. Really not sure how long I've been running without it. Really hope I haven't screwed something up.

Do you have the new version L/U? If so,the plug you are talking about doesn't let water in. It only hides the grease zerk fitting.

If its a 2010 and you have water in the LU, take it in and have the seals replaced under warrantee.

Water in the gear box is not OK by any means. Water has to travel a long way up the grease sealed prop shaft and then break through another set of seals to get in the gear box. U can tell when the lower prop shaft seals start to go out when u pump grease into the housing and u see water squeeze out before the grease.
