Post Broken prop
Broke my prop yesterday and had to be towed in 3 miles :x Pretty good crack and way out of balance. Would you be comfortable taking it to get repaired and use it as a backup? It may have 45 hours on it and has plenty of cup left. I'm thinking of trying to save some money and have a spare prop in the boat at all times. Again, this spare would only be used to get my back to the ramp. Trust me you don't have to be wide open to break a prop. Was probably around 25% throttle when I hit something. Trust me boys, always scout with another boat, and carry another prop and prop wrench. My prop wrench was in my garage, and the other boat had a brand new spare prop, but we couldn't get mine off. Anything can happen and make for a long day.

I had it happen on a longtail once, same thing happened. I never carried a spare with me with the longtails because it would be too much of a pain in the ass to change. With my gtr I always have a spare under the seat just incase.

Id just buy a new prop. You are going to need it sooner or later. Then you can use you current prop as the backup after it wears and know it will be good.

If the motor only has 45 hours I would call pd. Might be worth a 5 minute phone call

My dad was froggin one night back when we had a longtail and they were 45 min away from the boat launch. The shaft broke and sent the prop flyin about thirty feet in the air and they couldnt find the prop . Had to spend the night out in the marsh . I would carry a spare. in his case it didnt matter tho

Post Re: Broken prop
I'm not hard on my stuff, and I understand warranting props is going to be difficult at best. My issue is the prop is not worn or torn up, and when it let go I was at 25% of power. If you see this prop it looks as if I hit and underwater bridge on plane at full throttle. I couldn't event get it off my shaft as it was hitting the skeg it broke so bad. I had to tap it with a hammer for it to completely remove itself from the threads. It chewed a small portion of my skeg for the very little time it spun after the damage.

I would not use the repaired prop for more that a decoy anchor, IMHO. But then the water we run is not that forgiving. I would get with PD and see if they can help you out. Maybe, send the prop back to the factory. Good Luck. Duckdon
