 1840 GTB with 23 HP (carb+crossover)
Boat: 1840 GTB open layout, stock driver box, stock deck, stock grab bar Motor: 23 hp GTR with mikuni and BPS crossover Conditions Tested: 15-20 mph winds on grassy lake Load tested: Me (265), friend (200), G27 battery, 6 gals gas, small cranking battery, safety equip. Deep Water Speed: 22-23 Shallow water speed: 24-25 RPM: 3450-3650 depending on deep or shallow and upwind/downwind etc.
I love this rig! I was a little scared that the 40" bottom would make it too unstable, but its not. I was standing in the back with my friend standing on the deck I felt totally solid. It will tip a little bit if two guys are looking over one side but that's expected as it's only 40". The boat isn't a rocket out of the hole and the "flat spot" is still there but I'm a big dude and it doesn't take forever to get on step so I'm ok with that. I was stepping up considerably quicker with just me. It drafts extremely shallow, which is important to me. We were skirting through inches of water at rest and could run through very skinny water over hard bottom. Vegetation turned to vegetables. Grass mats were not a problem even at idle. Our lakes don't have a lot of soft mud so I haven't gotten to test out its mud capabilities. I'm interested to see how it will run with a third man in the boat. I put the G27 battery in to simulate hunting gear, I won't actually need to hunt, so i think having a third man could be pulled off. Overall I'm very happy with it and it ran pretty on par with my expectations. I could probably use a new prop b/c I've had this motor for a while, just on a new boat/trailer.
