Re: anybody try changing their top sprocket on 35hp gdsd
DB,
In his opening posts he said he had gotten a 36 tooth replacement from GD to change out from the stock 34 tooth - do you have the math on those pulley ratios handy ???
Can anyone verify what the pulley tooth count on a stock 35 GDSD is for each pulley ???
I'm unsure but guess the stock setup is 48 / 34 @ 1.411 if that assumption is true then 48 / 36 = 1.333 or roughly a 5 % change like your example

Re: anybody try changing their top sprocket on 35hp gdsd
5.8% difference from 36 to 34 So if he is running 4400 RPMs and swaps the pulley (I assume Upper pulley cause the lower pulley is usually bigger) from a 34 to a 36 he will drop Approx 5.8% in RPMS which turns out to be 4,144 RPMs Roughly.
Making the top pulley larger is the same concept as making the bottom smaller... The closer you are to 1:1 ratio the more load you put on the motor and the Faster the prop will spin in relation to the crankshaft RPMs.
