I was driving to work this morning and as I was stopped for a red light, a young man in a pickup truck pulled up besides me to the right. I glance in his direction to see him flick me the bird and mouth "f.... you" and "f.... Obama", probably in response to my bumper sticker which reads "Obama/Biden 2008". I'm never the one to let pass up a good discussion, so I see him turn right and pull into the local hardware store, all the while flicking me the bird, and I follow and pull up next to him as he's exiting his truck. I roll down my window, ask if he has anything to talk to me about. The young man, who I guess was in his late 20's or early 30's was besides himself and consumed with hatred and anger. He said he had a problem with my Obama sticker. I told him he was the best president we've ever had and was doing a fine job at turning the economy around, just in an attempt to engage him further, to which he about blew his top off. He began yelling at the top of his lungs "Freedom of Speech", "Freedom of Speech". Then I told him he was sick and needed help, because his anger had consumed him, just in my humble attempt to diffuse the situation . He began yelling "Freedom of Speech" even louder. He must have repeated himself at least 50 time...no exaggeration. In a further attempt to calm him down I told him he was not educated enough to understand the nuances and implications of his in depth argument with me, to which he flicked me the bird again, but this time leaned in my truck window to do so. I put out my hand to gesture a handshake but he responded by using his other hand to double flick me off. I told him god still loved him and would take care of him, because he loved ignorant people,too, and I was very nice when when I said this. Well, that was the straw for him.....

.....So, he begins pacing up and down the side of my truck and eventually makes his way to the back and takes a picture of my bumper. He comes back to the window. He was visibly red in the face, and he kept taking his hat off and putting it back on, even more agitated as hell. I try to calm him down by holding up my right hand with 4 fingers while saying "four more years", "four more years". Oh my lord, the anguish in his face. But to his credit, he did not hit me, though he made a fist a couple of times. I had to be in court shortly so I bid him farewell by telling him everything would be alright and that he could call me if he needed a lawyer to defend his right to free speech. In my rear view mirror I could see him gesturing in the same manner as when we first met.

This is the honest to god truth!!! But I never thought to take out my iphone. It would have gone viral.

I forgot to mention that he told me he was an engineer and educated enough to understand. I would not have mentioned that if I were him.

You know, almost everyone I meet with whom I have political differences is very nice to me and civil. My best friends rag me harder than anyone on here. Its this fringe group that cannot control their emotions which is kind of scary. You can be passionate about your beliefs and what you think will make this a better country, but passion does not mean you must hate or angered.

I had a impeach Obama sticker but I was required under the ucmj to remove it. The only time I was really scared for my life was in Port Barre, LA when a guy who didn't like that I had beat him in a game of pool, broke a beer bottle on the edge of the pool table. Race relations? Yea, lots of it goes on, roflmao! But really, of those I encounter in my daily affairs most folks simply want simplicity from our Governance.

The People just want to live their lives without a whole lot of crap. We can deal with the ups and downs, the cycles, we always have. And folks don't want to see others set upon just because of X, as it is our diversity and sharing that has created the Greatest Collection of Human Beings on Planet Earth, The American People!
