I broke the belt in my GD. Tried some Afro engineering. Didn't work. I will be keeping duck tape in my boat from now on. Along with maybe a needle an thread..

makes me think I should probably carry an extra belt with my GD... how many hours did you have on the original belt before it blew up?

I don't know exact. I put 100 hard hours on it. And I ran the belt against the frame for almost an hour. But I was running a sand/rock/gravel river (the brazos) and had hit something HARD and maybe ten min later I was cutting over some shallows (6") that had some larger rocks scattered throughout and caught one. And that was all she wrote. Enjoyed about a 5 hour float downstream though!

Wrapping the rope around each pulley two or three times would have worked.

I bought an extra belt and did a run through of what it would take to change it. All you do is take off the bottom pulley with 4 bolts, put the new belt on, and tighten the 4 bolts back down. You may also need to adjust the tension.

In all, it takes a socket wrench, a pair of vise grips, and maybe 30 minutes if your drunk.

Dammit man. Mine was at least a clean break! I still think duct tape would get you back to the boat ramp.... Have you found a cheaper place to get the belts? I found some on amazon for 64 plus 10 shipping...
