Re: Console steering VS tiller
A tiller is better for tight places and digging, consoles are good for long runs.

Re: Console steering VS tiller
How many of yall giving advice have owned both, a surface drive with tiller and a surface drive with hydraulic remote steering? Bunch of self proclaimed experts giving out inacurate information.

Console steering VS tiller
I would bet know one would believe this coming from me but I have gotten a Lil spoiled since getting my cc!! I still say a tiller is better for cutting it up but dam it's nice to sit and relax while driving!! I think my next small boat may be a cc also!!

Re: Console steering VS tiller
You can work a tiller better in the bad shit. For joyriding or long runs hydraullic steering is nice. Depending on the layout and size of the hull, a console might keep you from being able to hunt that extra person out the boat. Steering is going to be more $$$$$. Its all about what you want to do with the boat. I prefer the console. Drive both and make the decision.

Re: Console steering VS tiller
Looks like to me a reverse would be a more of a necessity on a center console rig.

Actually, in the last few days Ive started leaning toward a 17 or 1854 GT. Reverse can only make it better.

Re: Console steering VS tiller
Advantages with a console outweigh its disadvantages, its the way to go,especially with a loaded down boat.

Re: Console steering VS tiller
I love the center console, especially for the long runs. I just get pissed off when I get in thick shit and can't work the motors like I can a tiller. We have both and I've ran both in all kinds of shit. The tiller would still be my choice tho. I've found myself in more than a few situations whete I got hung up, that I usually could of gotten out with a tiller. Grow a set of balls and stretches your left arm, seeing as your right probably already gets its fair share of exercise

Re: Console steering VS tiller
Very few places a tiller can go that a console can't, as long as you know how to operate it. There is a little bit of a learning curve when making the switch from tiller to steering.

Re: Console steering VS tiller
I've never driven a console mud boat, but lotsbof outboards.
In the trees a console definitely takes more work to maneuver. If you get a console, get a knob on the wheel and make life easier.

Re: Console steering VS tiller
After riding in my old G3 that my dad now owns, my 3 yr old had a blast driving. Looks like I'll be getting a console. It sure is nice to not have tiller torque.
