 Re: Alligator lines
You can get in the lottery for specific lakes, winners get 2 tags each. Don't plan to make money off it. Would be fun to win and be able to catch a couple though.

 Re: Alligator lines
Season will not be closed dis year. Don't know where you heard dat rumor from. But it will not be a profitable year. Wild gators ussually sell for more dan farm gators because farm gators are killed before they reach five foot. We average 6 foot huntin. Minumum bid for state gator lease is $50 per tag winner of bid must buy all tags available at bidded price. For a good lease one ussually needs to bid $100 plus per tag to get da lease. Da lease I'm bidding on I'm exspecting about 90 tags. That being said I have been told by our buyers to exspect about $12 per foot for a 6 foot gator. Do da math dis year I'll probably loose about $2500 right off da back if I'm awarded da lease I'm bidding on. Then I'll also pay for fuel, bait, ammo, and riggin. But for da next four years I'll have first option on dat lease at da price I bidded when awarded da lease. I hope da prices come up next year.
It's a gamble.

 Re: Alligator lines
Da hooks we use are bout 6 in. long and have bout a 3 in. gap wit an eye bout a half in. in diameter. We tie it to a tree wit da bait bout 2 ft. off da water. Use a cloths pin to hang. Use bout a 16 ft. piece of 3/8 in. rope per hook. I find beef melt and chicken work best. If your bait is to close to da water da small gators will get it. Also set your cloths pin and rope up to where it will fall freely whin grabed if the slack is not available the hook will set in da gators mouth and it will get off. You want it to swallow da hook. When you pull da gator up do it slow and he will co-operate much more. Also da big ones are easier to get in da boat if you let dem roll in are sumtimes climb in. Da second makes for a real exciting time. But most importantly before you do anythang else put da tag in da gator's tail as soon as it is in da boat.

 Re: Alligator lines
Well I scored #1 of 2. Was a small one, only 5'9 but will be perfect for a rug mount to go on the wall and not take up to much space. Would have prefered it be a little heavier but I'm happy with it. I found out today that lottery gator hunting on public water is kinda like the duck hunting here. According to the regs you can place your baits up to 24 hours prior to the opener. I must have been the only one to read that cause I was the only one out yesterday. I go check the lines today and azzhats are hunting almost on top of me. Looks like 2 different sets so I'm guessing 2 different folks. At least I scored first blood.

The W&F guy told me that nobody up here would be buying this year as the price was bottomed out. Course I plan to keep mine anyway. I forgot how much work it was to skin those nasty bastards and wouldn't like having to work for a living again.
