It shouldnt be a big deal starting your dog on a e collar at 1 1/2 years old is it?

I would say not a problem if used correctly. Have you used before? (on another dog...)

They are handy. Once I let my bud out at the ramp he was parked at after a hunt and he let his dog run loose. The dog spotted a little girl walking her dog about 100yds away and made a b-line run at em. He hollered "here"] once and she never checked up, stayed wide open. Hit the collar... " buzz... Here! ". She did a 180 mid stride and was headed back like the world was coming to an end and heeled. It was pretty cool to see.

I think, if you've watched the vidoes as much as you have, and given that your concerrned about how to do it right, and not over doin it, you'll be fine and teh dog will be fine. Start low. Start slow. Dont use it as a crutch, but as an aid, when he (she?) aint listening to your voice or whistle command.

Yeah I just bought the sport dog wetlander 400 seem to have all i need on there but yeah I would have loved to get the tri tronics g3 but you know how that goes. But that is also the main reason i wanted to get him on one to clean him up he knows his commands but sometimes does what he wants.

an e coller should not be used for any command that a dog doesnt already know, understand and do correctly. You should use it to just ploish off the dog, on faster sits, more correct heels and things of that nature. it should never be used on a command that a dog sorta knows or just learned. but no you should still be in the right window of using it. ive never used one on a dog under 6 -8 months. didnt put one on my newist pup till she was 11 months. all the guys i know and train with follow about the same rule.

You need to condition the dog to the collar. Basically it is the invisible leash.
