 Which Blind?
OK, Looking for opinions, and I know everyone and their brother on this site has one. I'm also looking for the facts and reason why. I've got the new boat and motor, now I need a blind for this season. My old rig I build a custom aluminum blind for which was pretty much the same as what Shallow Water Marine builds. I plan to do the same thing for this one but not before this season. So I need to buy something for just this year. I've had several homemade blinds made of conduit and fabric, a couple sissors fold up and all of them looked good but functionally were crap. I don't have the time or energy to do that knowing eventually I'm building another perminent blind probably this winter. My Questions is between The Avery Quick set, Pacific Island or Mud Buddy which one do folks perfer and why? I'm not saying there arn't other blinds out there that are pretty decent but these are my top three with Avery as my favorite right now. I've owned a "Pop Up" brand in the past as well and I never really liked the fabric to me you have to be able to attach natural vegitation to it which is why I hesitate with the Pacific Island I believe the have Veggie pockets but I don't know how that works. The Mud buddy seems like it would really bug me taking up alot of space with the typee like function. Anyway looking for in the field reviews out there. Thanks

 Re: Which Blind?
I do, we have a Miller 251 here on the farm that I bought a spoolgun 15a for, it does pretty well on 1/4 and up but thin stuff if a challenge, ideally I'd like a tig but that's not in the budget at the moment. . I'd like to see what Poker built.

 Re: Which Blind?
I made my own frame and put MB shaggy panels on it. Straps and such are the same as the Shaggy blind. The camo makes stuff dissappear and blends in all types of terrain.
The blind sets up in seconds (pull up the frame, click the side release connectors, remove bungies and it rolls out to deploy). It drops it in seconds to move or quickly roll up the sides to stow for trailering.
If you end up making another blind you can use the panels for other camo needs- its light weight.

just ordered some shaggy panels, what do you use to keep it down, did you do the pvc thing. I live up north and im not sure how dipping it in the water would work once it gets freezing.
this is mine so far a cabelas flip top, have it set up with a 12" gap eye level

 Re: Original Question
Deadbird thanks for the on topic comment. Pokers blind is nice, no doubt and I've seen some nice blinds that people have built but anyone else got an opinion of which of the three Avery Quickset, Pacific Island or Mud buddy are the best and why. Thanks

 Re: Which Blind?
Hey poker I started on the changes to my blind today. I should have it finished tomorrow. I'll post some pictures tomorrow... The rain held me up on the paint so I had a chance to jump on the blind...

 Re: Which Blind?
are you saying i was off topic? if you were the reason i posted the pic of the cabelas blind is because its the exact same as the Avery Quick set except mine has a top and its cheaper and i was giving you an idea of what the avery would look like with the rain top....very functional, hardly off topic. Maybe because i asked him about the shaggy panels? i dont get it? Sorry if you feel i F'ed up your thread?

 Re: Which Blind?
Waterfowl Junky, No - The thread was Jacked up long before you added your comments and yours were more on topic then the rest. Never the less I should have expected no less Ducksmuggler, I get down to the redwing area on occasion, Bay City moreso. I appreciate the offer but I think I'll be going with Avery's Quick set for this season. I've seen pretty good reviews on it, and found a good deal at Cabellas with a Sale they have going on. Thanks

 Re: Which Blind?
I gots one of them old Avery Quick set and it is still functional. The parts are alittle heaver than the new Avery thay sellin' now. Sometimes a boatblind is very successfull and needed ... but you gots to have two of you huntin' fo it's very "quick" !! With the choices you have listed .... I would probley goes with the Avery. Avery gots a purdy good reputations on all thays products as far as duralbility goes.

 Re: Which Blind?
I've just finished the first round of Killerweed on the new rig. I am going to let this sit out for a while, spray it with some muddy water (or remove the camo covers and killerweed and stomp them into a mudhole and the hang dry) and then add some more weeds in a week or so. Everytime I buy an Avery product, it seems like the material is shinier. Overall, I am very pleased with how the blind turned out- I am getting a little better product each time I assemble one (this is the third) and I still feel like this is the best all around package available for purchase. My next one may be an Avery frame with the MB shaggy covers. The killerweed is LABOR INTENSIVE! more: http://s625.photobucket.com/albums/tt34 ... d%20avery/

 Re: Which Blind?
Brooks thanks for the feedback. Tmorelli nice job on the killer weed I'm planning on doing the same thing. I've always had fast grass blinds in the past just cause it blends in great up here but it can be a pain to work with and always seems to look better after about 5 yrs of use. I hear you on the shine you would think that Avery could get it right by now.
LA outlaw - I can tell you I just placed an order with Cabella's for the quickset with marsh grass camo net and wind blocker for 550 another 50 should get you the killer weed to add on. Only issue is they are on back order.

I also forgot to mention that they had this deal with a grand opening card that if you spend over $500 then you get $150 on a gift card for your next purchase.

 Re: Which Blind?
Some people have the time, some people have the money... Some people don't have either, that be me. All I know is I asked Poker what he thought he had into his build and he said about 400 so If I paid 550 and got a 150 gift card plus didn't have to spend hours building. The thing - I'm seeing that as a wash... At best 150 more, but then I'm not real good with math.
I've built plenty so this time - went the buy route. We'll see if I like it.

 Re: Which Blind?
Any blind you put on will be fine as long as you grass the chit out of it and make it blend!!! If you are going ot build a new hardblind this winter I would get the cheapest, possibly used, blind that would fit my boat if I were you. Then just add grass.
Ducks don't give a chit what the inside of the blind looks like.
