a friend of mine bought a nice(used)35 godevil sd about 1.5 years ago.within 3 mths of owning it,his son snapped the shaft and lost the wheel....20 miles away from dock.after the shaft,wheel replaced,and driveline maintence done....all was well for 3 mths.the boat was loaned to a close friend of his,sadly the friend said the motor quit on him and wouldnt run.the so called friend tore into the 35,quoted $500 of parts.which was new oil pump,govoner,1 connecting rod,and a few gaskets.
that was 1 year ago.

last mth i was asked to repair it,there was water in the cylinders,i pulled the side cover off and was shocked to see everything in there was toast.best i could tell....the govoner lockout block came loose,allowing the govoner to just slap around untill it simply exploded.the cam gear teeth are gone only where the govoner rides,both connecting rods were toast,1 broke at the bearing cap,crank scared badly,oil pump gear....ect.
briggs site had all the parts for roughly $1800....but that included complete overhaul kit.

so the best option was new engine.godevil quoted a new stock 35 briggs for a staggering $3200.
my local power shop wanted $2900.so i did the best thing i knew...ebay.picked up a nib 35 for $1800 shipped in 5 days.sofar my friend has $2000 invested in this new engine,all painted up.

and thats where im at as of now.i need to order the pully coupling,my friend broke it.
also installing the mikuni carb...not sure which model.ill be running a inline electric fuel pump...im not sure if i need to run a pressure regulator.the pump puts out 4-7 psi.
the original pump was cam driven,the new engine doesnt accept a cam drivin pump.
anyone has info on the psi i need....please let me know.

Usually everyone uses a 1.5-3 psi pump

i have the smaller 2-3 psi pump,mr gasket #42s.also identified the carb as the 42 mm mikuni.the bores id is 42mm.
will this carb add any power over the stock carb?

you'll gain over a stock carb with it because you'll dump more fuel thru it & also turn higher rpm with it usually

With Mikuni you'll probably run around 4k-4100 with that heavy of a boat. You got a rev limiter? I've got an extra I can sell you if you need it.

not sure exactly what that is.....i do know i have an unidentified small box bolted to the transom,with 3 wires that taped into the wiring harness.was scratching my head a few hours ago trying to figure out what it was......im betting thats it!
but shoot me a price shipped on your limiter...incase i need one.

That's more than likely what it is. I always bought a 4x4x4 pvc electrical junction box to mount them in so they stayed dry also. Red wire to wire that's hot when key is in the on & start position, but not when key is off. Black to ground. Green to diodes wire (black wire connecting the 2 coils together) - hook it up with a spade connector so it can be unhooked easily if the rev box goes out on you.

Shipped tyd, $80. Brand new, never installed, with new foam backer.

Smith, with some Mikuni setups, the crankcase vent tube is removed & replaced with small air filter.

just fired her up for the first time,started within 2 seconds of cranking.idled @1150-1190,throttle response was flawless.im impressed with the sound....i reall want one now!
shut her down after 10 mins of running,no oil leaks,no excessive noises.....just beautiful.
gotta get up at 2am for work....so ill run her for an hour tomorrow before i hook up the belt.
gonna test the rev limiter aswell.

rode her today,put 41 mins on the clock.31 mph in deep water,keeps hitting the rev limiter ever 2 seconds @4350 she kicks down.so everything is working properly.
adjusted the trim tabs to hold her lower to keep rpms in check,made a little difference.
ill get the wheel size,but owner states thats the biggest wheel go devil sells,blades look cupped already.
she ran beautiful.....now i need 1...lol
total engine replacement price to ride...$2800,better than godevils quote of $3200 for bare stock engine.

Well its been 5 years,over 3000 hours before the hour meter died last year.
I know this is a dead thread,but as luck would have it .....shes in poor shape again from lack of maintence and failure to take care if her.
My buddys son lost the air filter,crankcase breather 2 years ago.
Still ride her anyway.
This is his goto boat for anything fishing/hunting.

Needs exhaust gaskets,tuneup,choke cable,fried bps 4200 rev limiter.,.....ect.
Gonna be fun to build and watch it waste away.
This time im not gonna make it pretty.

If anything......this guy tears up everything,and this many hours on a stock 35 block......no break downs on the engine till now.
The gdsd frame,goes thru 1 complete shaft,wheel,bearing system per year.

Im diggen the custom carb adapter and the exhaust. Very southern

And 3000 hours. Gdsd

Im not sure the manufacture of the exhaust,but 5 years ago this beast almost sounded like a harley.
The carb adapter looks like homemade from aluminium ,but works very well.
Took him a good bit of money in props,shafts n bearings to get to 3k hours.

Instead of the rev limiter i may just search for a set of cdi coils.
Any particular rpm i should be looking for?
I think current could are non cdi.

There's more to it, than just swapping coils if the motor is a non-CDI (appears to be non-cdi)

I don't know all the details, but the timing on the flying needs to be changed and what not.

But its impressive to me, getting 3000 hours out of an abused motor.

Ill have too dig around and do some research before buying parts.

Just found out the lower shaft tube was replaced 2 years ago.
The stock tube from gd was crossthreaded allowing the bearings to not seat straight,forcing the shaft to bend....and eventually break.
That why he was eating 1-2 shafts a year.....plus his abusive nature.

Had alittle time to play with it,the right cylinder is making 125 psi compression and the left 115 psi compression.
Both cylinders leak down.
If im not mustaken compression should be 135-145 psi.
