 1754 vs 1846
Hey everybody sold my 1744 and I'm going a little bigger next time but I can't decide to go for a 1754 or a 1846.
Which one will carry more of a load? Speed? Draft in shallow water?

If it is a gator tail boat the 18 x 46 is a fast mofo. Not sure bout the 17 x 54.

 Re: 1754 vs 1846
A wider boat will carry more load and displace more water (draft less). 18' seems to be the length for best performance but going from 44 to 46 isn't much of a difference IMO.

 Re: 1754 vs 1846
At our camp we have 3 Gator Tail boats. an 1846, 1754, and a 1748 brother breaux.
the 1846 is by far the fastest. But he does sit lower in the water. But put 3 men and hunting gear in it and hes running the same speed as my 1754 loaded down.
Maxxis85 has the 1748. He is a little faster than me and can carry a decent load and still plane out.
My 1754 has hauled 3 people, a dog, a pirouge and hunting gear and planed out and ran is 8 inches of water like that. We also bowfish out of my boat, with a bowfishing deck all the lights 3 people a generator and gear and it runs decent.
If you want to carry a load, i would say either a 1754 or even an 1854. The performance is good on these boats and they are very stable. If you want speed, go with a 1846 or 1848.

 Re: 1754 vs 1846
details: I run alot of deep water with a 3 or 4 man load to get stumpfield that is inches deep and lots of vegetation hyacinth big time. Just sold a prodrive thinking of going with a Gatortail this time but might stick with the prodrive. I've swaped boats every two years for the last 8 years and I'm ready to hang on to one for a while.
The 1744 was a Gtrax and would not plane 4 I want to be able to plane four but I don't want to have the slowest boat on the lake. Will the 1846 plane a 4 man load. I know the 1754 will but that is a wide boat.

 Re: 1754 vs 1846
If you are traveling thru lots of lilies you may want to get a narrow hull like the 46 or 48. Thats what I run for that very purpose.

 Re: 1754 vs 1846
I have a 1854 with a lightly modded 35gtr. I had 6 people and a bunch of gear last season in 6ft of water I topped out at 24 mph.

 Re: 1754 vs 1846
I can plane out 4 + a dog, dekes and gear in good water. If I'm in some thick chit trying to plane it can be a problem. Its right on the edge of breaking over on plane unless the conditions are right. Shallow open water it jumps pretty quick. I run the same areas as you do. My buddys GT round hull had more problems there IMO. But thats why I plan on a stage1 to get me over that hump. If I were getting a new hull it would be a 20x48. My 18x48 is really closer to a 17x48 the way the pointed bow is built into the hull.

And I wouldn't be without FPR, in this area anyway.

 Re: 1754 vs 1846
I wonder if Coondik needs someone to do his tax return since he's got all this new work now? Maybe I can do some trading and finally turn my PD into a 7000.
