Post Pro Drive Boat ??
About to buy a 40 merc 2 stroke for fishing. Was looking to get a reg jon boat for it, but found a 1648 PD X series boat that i might can get for a good deal. Do ya'll think it would run ok or slide like a b****? I really like the layout of them, just wondering if i'll slide into the trees. Ought to haul butt though.

A regular jon will most likely have square chines=slide like crazy even with bottom crimps. A PD hull will probably be tapered chines=better turning ability, maybe some slide but better than square. The smooth bottom shouldn't cause any problems.

It would be like running a Carolina Skiff if you ever ran one of them.

Should be plenty strong enough. Worst case if it slides more than you like is have a couple runners welded to the bottom. No big deal and how its done anyway.

I have a PD 1754 and it does have a square chine. Slides a bunch in skinny, but holds turns pretty well in deep.

I talked to a guy that had a 1748 PD with a 50 Merc one day when running the local river. Said he loved it.Said it would run like a raped ape and he had no complaints with it.

cool, what would ya'll think a 1648 x series prodrive 2003 model would be worth roughly? I know it depends on condition, but from pics, the boat looks pretty good.

Get round chines if you don't want to slide. Some guys like Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Dodge etc. I think most of the big names building MM hulls build a quality rig but I just don't think square can turn with round no matter who builds it. Lots of guys say "get square and learn how to drive it." To me, that means "know your limitations and be prepared when you go beyond them." Not to say that it's good or bad, just the way it is. I own both, by the way.
