 Re: skiff vs mudboat
a skiff is a design of boat. Consist of having a bow that comes to a point. Also, the sides of a skiff are not cut to make the rake in the front. a mudboat can be a skiff, a mudboat is any boat with a engine which is used for going through mud, lillies, or grass. Please see website below. This is a mudboat. actually built into a skiff. www.mudboat.comHOPE THIS HELPS>>>

 Re: skiff vs mudboat
If you talking skiff vs bateau its really just the bow profile. Different builders have different rake designs though. If you don't know the difference you don't need a skiff IMO. They can be the Devil. If your wanting a pointed bow just get a bateau with a point. I like a pointed bow for manuvering through trees where I hunt. I fish alot and the front deck area of a bateau is needed.

 Re: skiff vs mudboat
Really no difference as far as general performance if thats what your asking. Its the same boat until it gets to the bow, which is out the water when running.

 Re: skiff vs mudboat
The difference between a bateau and a skiff, is a skiff is needed when traveling through trees. I have what is called a V-bow bateau. This enables me to have a big front deck for fishing, and also able to bounce off of trees in the swamp..

 Re: skiff vs mudboat
Is a 14 inch rake good for open water or do you need more than that

 Re: skiff vs mudboat
A SKIFF WITH A SMALL RAKE LIKE THAT WILL SPLIT LILLIES BETTER THAN A BATEAU BUT A SKIFF SUCKS TO FROGG OUT OF.WITH A BATEAU YOU HAVE THE BOW THAT IS WIDE AND LONG WHICH MAKES HUNTING ON THE BOW VERY NICE.ALSO I WOULD'NT GO WITH A 27HP YOU WILL REGRET IT TRUST ME!!!!!!!

 Re: skiff vs mudboat
IMO, if your concern is for open water (rough) then a skiff is not the way to go no matter the rake angle. The problem is the skiffs tendency to bite into a wave or wake if your not careful or experienced with one. So unless you absolutely NEED a skiff, why sacrifice the more user friendly aspects of the bateau? But if you set on that skiff then go for it. Take the learning curve a little slower. A flat bottom boat is just that and most of the rake on any of these hull will be out of the water when running. What lsft in the water, running surface, will be same considering width and length being equal. Don't over think things. Ask them to let you throw your motor on that skiff and take it for a spin.
