TXSHOCKWAVE on here built all my platforms. I can remove all the platforms in 5 minutes. 1 person no problem. We designed it to be able to flounder gig up front. I use a Yeti Cooler for when I'm fly fishing so there's no obstructions on the bow. Poling platform has 6 rod holders, the hoop bar is removable and lays down during trailering. The platforms are both powder coated with a black crinkle finish.

How did you get such perfect bends with the aluminum poles? I take it you must have a pipe bender? looks great.

Post Re: PICS OF POLLING PLATFORMS!!!
I wanted to get this topic back to the top. I'm thinking of putting a poling platform on my boat, and I wanted some ideas. Daniel, this may end up involving you ( ), so it's good to see you've already got some pipe bending under your belt. Coe, the consistency of the multiple bends in yours is extremely impressive. We ran a lot of conduit at my old job (and I did personally when I was in the field for my first year), and I can tell you that getting everything to match up with that many bends is no small feat! That one is a little more intense and feature rich than what I'll be looking for though.

I think I'd like something small, and if it could be narrower and only attached to the rear of the hunt deck (for turning), that would be preferred. The truth is, my primary reasoning behind this platform will be to mount a radar to, not to pole from, so I want to maintain as much usability of the huntdeck as possible.

I'm not crazy about the shape of the first two, but they give you a good idea of how I'd like it to mount. The third is the most similar to what I'd probably be looking for.

Anybody got any suggestions or pictures?

Post Re: PICS OF POLLING PLATFORMS!!!
I just responded to a PM from WEA, but I figure I should post my reply here too in case others have similar questions...

"It will be camo with a small aluminum deck, not polished or with fiberglass. This is for my duck boat; I just happen to have an extra radar off my big boat and figure it'll be nice to have around Venice in fog. The radar dome would probably be at the back of the platform, leaving me enough room to sit or stand on it. I would prefer my stern light be behind and above the dome in order to keep the glare off of me. I'll probably also put a VHF antenna on it. With that many wires run through the piping, I don't think it would be sensible to try to make it removable. Even if I could find a quick connect for the radar cable, the salt water would eat it up. The main thing I'm worried about is having the pipes welded far enough back on the huntdeck that they don't restrict turning too much (no reverse with the GDSD). I don't want them extending the full beam because it will make the huntdeck unusable for getting in and out of the boat or sitting on."

So you can see in the pictures I posted that those platforms would attach to the transom and the top of the huntdeck, close to the aft edge. They also hug the motor so as not to be as wide as the boat, leaving 1/4 or so of the huntdeck unobstructed on either side.

I may get bored in a little while and try to draw something. I'm at work today...

Here is mine. Built by Cat 5 same guys that built my boat.

As you can see, I put one of those wakeboard tower lights on it for my stern light. The fitting you see on the front of the deck is for a sissy bar (with drink holder).

About half the time I wish I could take it off for hunting with my blind because it is hard to hide. Then I put a cripple down in the broken marsh and want to see my dog so I can work him or I want to scout after the hunt. Love it then.

OtL, that's basically exactly what I'm looking for! I remembered you posting that picture recently, but I couldn't remember where, so I appreciate you reposting it. I would like one like that with the supports angled back, slightly, and maybe a 6" x 6" square added to the back center for the radome. Then I'd like to have a 1" pipe come out from under the radar, angled up 90 degrees behind the radar to just above the dome with a flat, round plate to mount the wake tower stern light on. I'd also like another 1" pipe coming off of one of the rear supports for a VHF stainless whip antenna.

Dfou, do you think you could build that? It would have the angle of the last picture I posted (Clearwater flats boat) with the approximate support footprint, bracing, and platform of OtL's, plus the features I mentioned. I don't need the rod holders or sissy bar, but I might want a seat pedestal in the center.

Swamptesticles, you wouldn't know what to do with that! ;)

No sissy bar???? Where you going to mount your drink holder?

Those are only rod holders in the summer, during duck season they are palmetto holders.

If this boat was my livelihood, and I was on it all day, everyday, I would agree with you, provided that it was an 8' open array radar and it ran the whole time. However, a 24" radome being a few feet from me and operational maybe 20 times per duck season and let's say 20 more times the rest of the year will not expose me to enough radiation over the course of a lifetime to remove a mole. It's called Time Weighted Average of exposure, and when combined with the low output of a small range, recreational radar, I'll still be producing plenty of healthy sperm to throw a few in a tissue or on my girlfriend's tits a couple times a week... ;)

Bump.

Any cool, new platforms out there? I'm going to pick up my radar on Friday, so it may be time to begin the build in a few weeks time...
