Post Need Some Mandeville Area Info
If a person were moving to the Mandeville area and considering moving into either MHS or FHS school districts, what are subdivisions or areas that he would NOT want to buy a house?

I can put you in touch with a realtor if your moving this way. She is good and honest which is hard to find. I'd go to mhs over fb, it's darker over there. Look in madisonville also, I picked it over mandeville when I got my house

Madisonville was a thought. but, I will be commuting to/from Chalmette area. So, Mandeville was about as far away as I wanted to get. It looked like MHS and FHS were the two best high schools in St. Tammany. So, that was another big factor in the decision making process.

There are a couple of private schools in the area too not sure if they are an option for you or not. Any area south of the interstate, near 190 and/or close to the lakefront is pretty good areas. Most of the less than pleasent areas are isolated spots.

I dont live in mandeville anymore im in covington now but I commute every evening to New Orleans and its not a bad drive most days.

Best of luck

I went through this 4 years ago. We chose Fontainebleau and live in a very quite subdivision with 1-2 acre lots.

PM me if you need any help. Also, my wife's a teacher in the district and knows all the schools pretty well.

I live in Covington really close to St Paul's and really like it. However I do not have any kids and the area is lacking for young people in my opinion.

I would look between Mandeville and Abita Springs. Lots of houses for sale. I have two boys at
Fountain bleu good school. I12 is half way so either way its about the same. I would head north
of I12 High Ground! Really look when you do buy all the creeks flood really bad in the area. I would stay out of subdivisions unless you want nosy neighbors!!

Handi, thanks to you and your wife for all the good info! My wife has her work cut out for her, now! She has your wife's email, now. So, if she has any more questions, she will ask her.

Ponchatoula is not a bad drive to Chalmette. The Ponchatoula school district is the best in Tangipahoa Parish....none dark! Good subdivisons on Hwy 22.

Barnes it's been no smoking since Bruce remodeled. You can learn a lot of shit there. Most is useless though.

When you sit down at Bruce's you better plan on drinking. Those men will put you two beers behind before its your turn to buy the rounds.

Ruby's open or did the floor finally cave in. What about the Red Barn Pub...still open? Blue, at least you will know where the watering holes are from this thread.

I don't drink and very rarely would I ever have any desire to go to a bar. Yeah, that makes me the square peg in a round world being a non-drinker living in south LA! LOL

Keeping the thread on point, the original question was regarding housing and more specifically, where not to live.

I agree with Ponchatoula/Springfield area being a REALLY nice place to live. But, that daily commute would probably be rough on me. I currently have a 34 mile, 40-45 minute commute. Not really wanting to add too much time to that.

Blue, I live off Hwy 22 (Cole Creek Sub) and Chalmette would be about an hour drive driving through NOLA. Mandeville would be a little less through Slidell. Great folks here in Ponchy.

Covington would also be a decent place to live as well. Mandeville property taxes and cost of living is sky high, but you rarley deal with trashy people. Just rich snobs at times.

St Tammany property taxes and cost of living is higher compared to Tangipahoa. As a homeowner and currently looking for new home or property to build on, unless you have that extra money to spend Tangipahoa in the Bedico/Robert are is the ticket.

I guess it just depends on what you're looking for- I have a buddy who moved from mandeville to bedico & yes his money got him more in bedico than it did in Mandeville, but he regrets the move & plans to move back. He never seems to hangs with the guys, longer drives to restaurants, etc.

That is part of the problem we have now. We are 12 miles away from anything in any direction. With this move, we want to be closer to restaraunts, shopping, theaters, schools, etc.

In the words of Phil, she is happy, happy, happy.
