Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
Yesterday afternoon a good friend of mine contacted me about putting together a Mud Boat ride in conjunction with the Wounded Warrior Project. He is friends with one of the directors and can get the WWP side of things put together.
What I need is help from you guys on this board!! I need volunteers to drive your boats, provide the gas, and the drinks for a couple of WW for the day.
Basically we already have a tentative date set for June 29th. Most of these guys are in the Houston / Galveston area so I think Wallisville would probably be the best place to ride.
Maybe we can format it something like the Mud Bugs Ride. Trail Ride in the morning, then a lunch of some sorts, then an afternoon ride.
I have never tried to put something like this together. So any and all help and suggestions would be appreciated.
Let’s show these guys that the MMT community is full of great people!

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
put me down as a driver.....ill supply gas and cold beverages......what about seating in the boat? I know some of these guys have some serious injuries and might need more stable seating.

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
They do a lot of great work for soldiers but they do not support guns and or gun manufactures they will not accept any money from them and or and gun shoots that money is raised to donate to them... Gun company's as well as knife company's have tried to allow them to put their logo on lowers and all proceeds go to them and they refuse to interview or have any dealings with gun or knife company's.....

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
I was a supporter of them until they come out saying they do not support guns.......... One of my best friends was injured in afgan and they did for him as he spent over a year in San Antonio and when they turned down an interview on veteran's day and made there it really bother a lot of ppl me included and also bother me and my buddy a ranger who thought so much of an organization..........

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
Dan - PM returned.
Jeff - I had thought about the seating arragnement last night, and i haven't come up with a clear solution yet. I feel like if any of them were in wheel chairs we should have enough able body people to get them (in the chair) in the boat and then strap it down.
I honestly just want to do SOMETHING to give back. We are all very lucky to be able to do what we do each and every day. And if sharing our passion for mud motors and the great outdoors helps these guys in any way, we should all participate.

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
From their website:
"WWP does not co-brand, create cause marketing campaigns or receive a percentage or a portion of proceeds from companies in which the product or message is sexual, political or religious in nature, or from alcohol or weapon companies."
I'm not crazy about it, but I think it is more important to do something for the vets than to worry about how the organization conducts itself. Some friends of mine here open their 500 acre waterfowling lease each year to host a WWP deer drive. The hunt club, the wwp, and local businessmen organize a fine event and a good time is had by all.
It is moving to witness/experience the atmosphere of a WWP hunt. We're going out of our way to thank them (both personally and by show of hospitality) for their service and sacrifice and the WWs are going out of their way to show their gratitude for the hunt and the meals (breakfast and a cookout lunch). They are always great guys and good sports to hunt with too.
I think it is great that you are organizing a mud run for them. It takes three or four boats and a half dozen or so ATVs and UTVs to get 20-30 WWs and 30 or so assistants on stand for our drive. Many of the WWs appear to enjoy the ride and the cookout afterwards just as much as the hunt.
You are doing a good thing. If it weren't so far away from me, you could count me in to help. The good news is that you will probably end up with more sponsorship and more volunteers than you can use. The gentlemen who organize the event here seem to have that problem. Be sure to keep a close tab on your WW headcount to be sure to maximize your event. Be sure to tell your volunteers to bring their children. I felt it was important for my children to participate.

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
I would like to participate. Not sure what I can commit to just yet with the new baby coming, but I can do something.
I don't know much about the organization, but if I can meet and directly interact with our soldiers, then I'm all in.

i will be doing it for our soldiers who have sacrificed way more than i ever will. I dont care what organization is bringing them out, its not the org im doing it for, its the wounded heros.

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
Well said Jeff. If I am not working I would like to participate James. Any person that puts themselves in harms way for our way of life & freedoms deserves utmost respect & gratitude...no matter what organization is advertised on the van they show up in to an event. Just my opinion. I am sure there will be plenty boats take part no matter the politics of an organization.

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
As of right now, I'm scheduled to work that weekend, but if that changes, I'd love to help with this. I don't care about the politics of the organization. They still do good things for great guys that deserve all of our support. As part of the "dying breed" in this country, I feel it's my responsibility and an honor to give back to these men in any way that I can.

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
Y'all are correct we should give back to the soldiers and honor them! I guess my point was not to donate to an organization that is antigun, considering there is not a person on this site who wants to lose their rights to own guns or I hope there's not

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
1st - Thank you everyone for the positive support.
I am talking to CajunDan and my friend through WWP to see what will work best for the Vets and for all of us to make this the best event possible.
I would like some input from you guys about how this ride would work:
My original thought was morning ride, some sort of lunch, then an afternoon ride.
I haven't tried yet, but i feel that sponsors for this event should be fairly easy to come by in the MM community and from other sources. Again suggestion or help in that regard are appreciated.

Re: Wounded Warrior Project - Mud Boat Ride
Thanks James.
I just talked to CajunDan and we had discussed moving this event back to October. Hopefully it wont be so miserably hot. Some of these guys can't just jump in the water to cool off like most of us.
Lot more to conisder than I had realized.
Any inpute? Work better for most people?

I don't think during duck season will the best time to do it, gunna be a lot of pissed off hunters after we get done with the morning ride lol if they wanted to hunt the morning and do a ride after lunch that would be cool.
