I've never owned a MM before. Would you guys recommend paying the extra $ for a GD galvanized frame if you're only going to run in fresh water?

Yep - fresh or salt we use them rain or shine and it protects inside
as well as outside the belt housing....

Also get 2 "rattlecans" of their touch up paint and after it gets a bit
of use - spray it down with white vinegar and let stand till it gets a
white coating - don't wipe that off - just spray over it to get good paint
bonding - the vinegar acts like an acid etch to help stick the paint...

You only need 1 can for the job - then after duck season use the second
one for touch ups.... I have gotten 4 seasons on mine that way all in salt
water marshes....

Grab a can of WD40 or ELube and spray it every time you use it. This extra coating prevents rust.
I keep a can of spray paint and spray it every so often. I spray it with WD40 or ELube every time I use it. My motor looks like new and I use the shit out of it. I do not have the galvanized model.
If used in salt water spray off immediately after use. Then hit the WD40 and spray it again.
Your lower unit will be all greased up but it is better than rust. GD keeps paint in stock. You can also use Rust-o-leam camp flat paint.

Kind of off topic here but...I don't understand why some people use WD-40, that shits more of a cleaner, it actually cuts grease.. I know the can says "rust preventative" but that's if you keep is sprayed all the time. When I was a kid I sprayed a matt finish single shot barrel and set it in the corner for a couple of days to find it more rusted than it ever was. Corrosion X works and stays on.

Go to their website and search for dealers. Just about any boat supply around here has it. Don't be shocked at the price, the stuff is worth it. Or order it online... Red can is basically what you need, the green can is like gorilla snot. LOL
