Only a 3/16 bottom. I see absolutely no reason to have 3/16 anywhere else. New prop empty can hit 28 deep.

Mine is .100 gauge all around next one will be 1/8 bottom. After seven years of running it it's starting to show wear, I only ran 34.6 this weekend with a moderate load. LOL

 Re: 3/16 boat/bateau and a modded 36?
i said this before and say it again, if 1/8 boat is built RIGHT! and braced correctly there is no need for that extra weight of a 3/16 bottom

 Re: 3/16 boat/bateau and a modded 36?
and think of it this way too
take a one 3in piece of 1/8 try to bend it
now take a 3/16 peice about 8 in long and try to bend it, which one bends easier.
and aluminum is soft metal, make it to hard and to thick. will result in horrible effect if you stress that hull

 Re: 3/16 boat/bateau and a modded 36?
all things made that take abuse or any kinda force needs to be able to move but move the right way, basic engineering.
make metal to stiff it cracks, to soft it bends yadaydaydaydayyadaa.
like big sky scrapers they move and give more than you think. same applies for these bath tubs we have that we call boats

 Re: 3/16 boat/bateau and a modded 36?
I'm not saying your wrong. I am just asking you to clarify how that can happen. By adding more braces? Nothing will give you more longevity than a well contructed whatever. But we are talking hooks. Hitting objects will still cause damage. Can you offset that by having a 1/8 or lessor bottom better supported by more properly placed bracing? Probably but you just added the weight your trying to save with every extra brace. I don't claim to know what that answer is other than longatudinal=good and cross bracing=bad. What the perfect formula is is anyones guess. Especially with folks talking about possibly getting bad material that was softer than it should have been. From what Ive seen IMO a properly built 3/16 bottom is tougher than a properly built 1/8 bottom which is tougher than a properly built .100 ga bottom. Everything is relative. I'm not saying 3/16 will make up for not having a well built rig to begin with but with all things being equal it is stronger and resist hooking better IMO. Maybe DDM has something with the flexing. I don't know. Its probably like eveything else in life. If you bought 10 identical trucks chances are that 1 will have more problems than the others.

 Re: 3/16 boat/bateau and a modded 36?
What they make airboats out of? Like poker said. if you want to prevent the bottom from "washerboarding" u need thick metal not more braces for it to form out of. go to godevil web page and my hull is made out of what they use on the inside....they use a different metal on the hull.....think that is what our proble. is.....we got boat builders who got there material mixed up. F it I'm going to buy a nother tracker and get factory warranty......and a outboard....

 Re: 3/16 boat/bateau and a modded 36?
I was worried for a minute. I will be curious as to how the UHMV works out in the long haul. In my non-FE mind a 100 or 125 bottom with 1/4 or thicker UHMV (properly braced of course ) would still be flexible and at the same time stiff enough to want to retain its shape and resist hooks sort of like a glass or polymer type hull.

 Re: 3/16 boat/bateau and a modded 36?
jake- you dk what your talking bout, go rebuild a motor or something . the weight added by extra bracing is only a fraction of how much a hole 3/16 bottom weighs, I guess differnt strokes for different folks, I guess that why some of the guy who beat the hell out of more shit have their boats built out of 1/8 and not 3/16...........now if running a outboard that weight doesnt matter build it out 1/4 fork it, but trying to get better speeds 1/8, but whatever

 Re: 3/16 boat/bateau and a modded 36?
yall are missing something here though,
airboats are high HIGH horse powered engineens and those boats are usually only 14-16 ft long, with big block automative engines or high compression aircraft engines, those motors are made to haul 6-10lb vehicles and haul major loads, that weight of that hull is nothing to them motors, now these mm we run are effect by weight dramatical, ok so light boat=fast boat heavy boat=slow boat
now like i was saying take a long piece of 3/16 with just long runs, that can be bent easier than is thought, take a shorter piece of 1/8 it much harder to bend it. its basic physics
if yall cant see anything im trying to get at, fork it got better things to do
