 Good news today
My son just calls me out the blue today and tells me he has decided not to go into the army. He's gonna Pursue what he originally wanted to do and go into nursing. I don't know if it makes me less of a American but this for me as a parent is the best day of my life.

 Re: Good news today
While it is an honor to serve ones country with military service I wouldn't want my children in the service right now. He gets an education and skills that will make him money. Congrats.

 Re: Good news today
Terry if he goes to Nicholls, let me know. My wife teaches in the nursing department. If he has any questions, I'm sure she would be more than happy to help.

 Re: Good news today
Been nursing in the ER for about 7 years now. After spending 10 years in a machine shop. It's a good living and probably the best job security there is. I get a couple of random job offers in the mailbox every week or phone calls from recruiting agencies. And it's hard to beat 7 on 7 off during duck season

Terry, I'm truly happy for ya. The kid's got a good head on his shoulders & will do great things. No way I'd want my boy serving under this idiot anyhow.

 Re: Good news today
Good money, work where ever you want, a large number of additional paths in medicine that lead from nursing, working with lots of women, and will be in the same country as his family.....good choice

 Re: Good news today
Thanks guys. 8 months ago he made this decision as a 17 year old high school kid. Theirs been many of tears since then from this dad I can tell you that. Thing is I was total against it not going to the army part just that he was to young to make that decision. I begged and pleated for him to graduate high school school and get out and figure what he really wanted to do. If this is for you make that decision, when you figure out what you want in life then pursue it. Of course I didn't know any better I was just a scared dad and its his life. Well after 8 months he actually told me he was sorry and that I was right. He's gonna take what I told him and see we're it takes him. I'm not against the armed forces and I would be proud if he did decide to go later but Not now. Again guys thanks for all the kind words and all the help offered. I talked to him last night and he gonna go to paramedic school first.

 Re: Good news today
sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders. He should do well at least now you don't have to worry about deployments an your son fighting in someone else's war. It dosen't make you less of an American not wanting to see your son go into the armed forces all every parent wants is what's best for there kids. Good luck hope he does great things.
