Post Going old school
Well my dad purchased his motor and wood for his old school mudboat , all his wood showed up
except the plywood for the bottom, they told him it was on back order , so he was able to
get the sides cut out and started on his transom. I told him to send me some pics an I would post
a build thread for him .

Is that resorcinol glue you're using? If so, you're really going old school on this build. Thing about resorcinol is it requires clamping pressure to bond and does not fill gaps well. I've busily a few pirogues with it with excellent results and its way cheaper than epoxy.

How did you determine the shape of your side panels?

As for as the glue yes it is ,we did a count of all the wooden hulls he's made over the years
and came up with six the biggest an 18' skiff that I think was 6' on the bottom with the corners
of the bow having a radius on them , thing was sweet and as for the sides I wasn't there when
he did the cut out but I do know he may cut them to throw in more shape depending what kind
of shape it gives once he has the flare put in. Stay tuned old pops can't crank it out like he use to
but does what he can without his back or the heat getting to him.

That chine he's nailing to the side panel should be proud of the edge so when you flare the sides and start planing the chines flat there will be material to shave off, otherwise he'll be shaving plywood. Also note that the nails should be far enough away from the edge to accommodate shaving of material. I've made this mistake enough times to know. I presume this boat will have flared sides.
