Has any one used on heard about Oceapoly performance just saw it online and thought it looked pretty good. Thinking of trying it on the bottom of my boat. http://www.linktech-inc.com/index.php?o ... 3&Itemid=4

Yes I believe it is a bond-able UHMW But how good does this stuff bond. I have always seen UHMW mechanically fasten to the haul.

 Re: OceaPoly Performance
Removable by sandblasting, pneumatic hammer and router so it must be bonded pretty good. says its 1/4" thick and will last 15-20 years and looks like they heat it to form it over any shape hull. i sent them an e-mail to find out what that stuff cost to get it installed. if its not too high $$$ it may be better than bolting a sheet of teflon to the bottom. im going to check into it alittle deeper. being able to unbolt the teflon and replace it seems easier than having to sandblast the hull to replace the poly , but if the poly is durable enough to last for 20 years it shouldnt need to be replaced.

 Re: OceaPoly Performance
Yeah, and you wonder if it's applied with heat, couldn't you use a torch to patch it up or re-apply?

 Re: OceaPoly Performance
i dont think its applied with heat. its formed with heat but applied using a patented bonding protocol that bonds the poly to steel, stainless steel, aluminum, fiberglass, wood and almost any other substrate.

 Re: OceaPoly Performance
bruce linken called me today about the e-mail i sent him. he mostly does military(not just usa but other countries as well) and commerical boat apps so price was not available without asking me a few questions about what i needed and doing some figures. he did tell me a few things about oceapoly ill try to repeat here as accurately as i can from the notes i scratched down while we talked. 1/8" poly 0.85 lbs per sq ft. 1/4" poly 1.50 lbs per sq ft. 3/8" poly 2.00 lbs per sq ft. adheasive used to bond the uhmw to the hull has 1100 lb per sq inch strength with no failures of the adheasive to date. he mentioned smoothing dented hulls with epoxy before installation. the uhmw has sillicone added to it for more "slick" factor. he stated some numbers comparing it to teflon, i didnt write down, but i do remember it being pretty close. he also mentioned some war stories of testing ..... military dropping a large metal wedge on a hull that went through the hull before poly then with poly it didnt damage hull , only left a "9 iron diviot" in the polly. also shooting the hull with small calliber, the polly stopping the round from going through the alum. hull. mentioned a river boat company reported a 10% loss in speed after installation of 3/8" poly on their river jet boats. he is located in south haven, MI. he has one installer located in MO. and sea ark in AR. is looking to be one of his installers also. he also said something about florida, either someone he talks to about tech stuff or another installer, i cant remember.
i told him about running over cypress knees and everything else with a loaded boat and asked him about which combination would work best for a hook proof hull, taking overall hull weight into consideration. he said the 3/8" uhmw/silicone sheet would be the poly for me but had to check on the hull thickness. he said with the protection provided by the 3/8" i could run a much thinner hull but he didnt know just how thin. he said he would call me tomorrow with the info on the hull and cost of getting oceapoly installed on a 1754 flatbottom boat.

 Re: OceaPoly Performance
just got off the phone with bruce.......$3000 to have the bottom of a 1754 covered with 3/8" poly. $2650.00 to have 1/8" installed. said 2 of his guys could do it in one day if it was a flat bottom boat. he described the installation process to me: sandblast the hull, wash the hull, apply etching compound, apply epoxy compound to fill in any dents, apply secret patented sticky stuff, slap on the poly, vacuum bag the whole thing, let things cure, weld the seams between the sheets of poly, then router excess poly from the welds smooth. bruce says its a permenant installation to last 15-20 years.
also called hoyt right after and talked to him about their extreem hull and installing poly on it. hoyt said he had a guy come down and glue some poly on for him but it didnt stick and ended up tossing the operator out of the boat when it came from together, so he bolts his poly. i mentioned this to bruce, thinking it might have been him, bruce said it wasnt him but he knew who the person was and the process that was used, confirming that particular process doesnt work very well.
